The only nation that can destroy America is America, and never let it be said Americans don't have a can-do attitude.

99 Poems about Ted Stevens! 63 on Tuesday, 36 on Wednesday. And although Ted hasn't been surfacing in the news today like he was earlier in the week, the sun doesn't set in the North this time of the year, until very late. Ted did call me though. It was a robo-call. I was really hoping that he'd call, or that somebody from his staff would call back, accepting my offer inviting somebody in his Alaska office to help judge this contest over the weekend. But, no, just another damn GOP robo-call. Here's my favorite part of Ted's call: Hi! This is Senator Ted Stevens. Sorry to miss you today. I've called to invite you to a town hall meeting - BY TELEPHONE! I'm reaching out to you with this new technology....

Taking a clue from his senior foreign policy adviser Richard Armitage, who recklessly chatted with Bob Woodward about Joe Wilson's wife's job at the CIA, presumptive GOP Presidential nominee John McCain alerted the enemy to Barack Obama's travel plans this weekend.

One of the most amazing characteristics of modern conservatives is their absolute refusal to be bound by such petty trifles as "laws" or "regulations" (or "facts," or "common decency," or...).  We're seeing a lot of it lately: Mukasey and Rove obstructing congressional investigations on the flimsiest of pretexts; Congress itself voting to immunize telecoms (and thus the White House) from prosecution for illegal surveillance; a GAO report on the Department Of Labor's unwillingness to protect workers; and the financial sector's ongoing burnination, fueled by deregulation, non-regulation, and outright malfeasance.

Sadly, I did not have a Swing Wing when I was a child but it certainly would’ve explained a few things. In fact, it looks like one of my stage moves. Why these didn’t take off is beyond me.

It's kind of heartwarming to see Krauthammer unpack his sense of irony from the mothballs, where it's obviously been for the past eight years. So now he discovers "backdrops."

Well that was fun. A replay of the premiere of Meet the Bloggers should be up here shortly. The highlight of the piece, IMO, is that Cenk got the name of the Sargeant at Arms in: Bill Livingood. How cool would it be if a guy named "Livingood" walked up to Karl Rove and put him in handcuffs?

Michelle Obama's problem is not that she's an elitist in the eyes of the right -- it's that she doesn't have the right to be a member of the elite, like Cindy McCain. Underlying the entire critique is the notion that her commoner pretentions to monarchy are laughable.

Cindy? Why, she's kinda like a modern day Lady Di.

Of course, it's all wrapped up in class- and race-based notions of who is entitled to power, and what its symbols should acceptably look like. Michelle Obama obviously doesn't fit the dress, and thus any smear is considered acceptable to handicap her ascent, no matter how flimsy and manufactured.
