Want to know something we can all do to make Rove's "retirement" a little less relaxing? Lou Dubose at Salon just gave me a great idea:
It appears that it's over. As Rove returns to the Hill Country home in Texas he and his wife, Darby, bought and refurbished, the party in which he invested his energy, if not his soul, is divided among social and economic conservatives. Even Texas Sen. John Cornyn, a one-time moderate who drank the Kool-Aid with the Christians in the Texas Republican Party, is in trouble with the state's voters. Cornyn, like Bush, was a creation of Karl Rove. Maybe Rove can save a Senate seat, if not his soul, by quietly throwing in with Cornyn's campaign, after he settles back down in the state where it all began.
Rove can save his soul by getting John Cornyn re-elected to the Senate? Beyond the obvious hyperbole in that sentiment, let me just say this:
Not. On. Our. Watch.
We just had a great candidate on for Blue America who is running to replace John "Box Turtle" Cornyn as the next Senator of Texas. In case you missed him on Saturday, Rick Noriega had a fantastic chat with everyone at Blue America -- and it is well worth a read through the comments to see why Howie is so excited about his candidacy.
So, here's my idea: What do you say we all chip in a bit to help Rick do just that? And if you have a few extra bucks, feel free to check out our other fine Blue America candidates for the 2008 election. Because, really, a legacy of failure for Rove is a terrible thing to waste, isn't it? Rove himself said he's a good fundraising incentive for Democrats who think he's besmirched the government, and you know how I hate to disappoint Uncle Karl.
Let's just call it a "housewarming gift for the Turdblossom," shall we...

I love how your mind works!
Go Rick!
Anyway, I’m not a political donor, but this year looks like things are going to be changing! I thought Noriega did quite nicely here as a guest blogger, though he was a little constrained (I thought) by the need for basic diplomacy (how come most Republican candidates don’t seem to feel the same way)? Anyway, this is another aspect of this blog I appreciate (the other is the hit-out-of-the-ballpark posts that Christy does)…
I enjoyed Rick’s visit on Saturday…
I say, it’s the neocons that need drowning in the bathtub! And we can get started by working against any of them being (re) elected…grrrr…
Here’s my part. I’d like to see how many of the Central Texas Firepups I can get to WORK on behalf of Noriega.
Oh Christy. You have a gift!
And …. Good Morning Christy!
OT: I’m still musing over the LA Times article mentioned downstairs giving Gonzales a hand in state executions (linky). Amazing how the Republicans will go on and on and ON about states rights…until it involves something THEY want to happen across the board. I wonder what sort of backlash this thing will produce?
TexBetsy at 7 — I think that is a fantastic idea. Early boots on the ground can be invaluable to a campaign.
TexBetsy @ 7
The more boots you have, the better to kick someone out on their ass. Great idea Betsy.
TexBetsy @ 7
You Go Grrrrlll! ;->
I’m off topic here, or maybe not. As campaign shenanigans go, I think the “paper of record” is doing its damnedest to sway opinion. This

infuriated me this morning. Dennis Kucinich ‘disappeared’ courtesy of the New York Times. Like the author wrote:
“It makes you wonder why we bother with this whole primary process… except that without them, how would corporate interests get a chance to pour money into campaigns and buy the eventual presidents and members of Congress.”
PB (peanut butter) @ 9
The republicans never met a rule they didn’t want to break.
And Good Morning Christy and Everyone!
Not. On. Our. Watch.
I live in Texas, and I vote… I think John Cornyn is in deep do-do, judging from conversations I am involved in. He has done nothing for our country or state, except to prove that he is as mindless as the administration.
PB at 6
It’ll be interesting to see. I’m guessing as the bright lights are turned on, they’ll scurry into the dark corners under the tub like silverfish in a dank bathroom. Gonna have to be quick, but I s’pec we could round ‘em up. ;->
I don’t donate until after the primaries–but here’s hopin we get Cornyn next fall.

Sharon @ 14
I blogged about that last night, and linked to a piece in Buzzflash.
Hi, Christy. I gave to Rick when he was here the other day.
OT, except that it’s related to Cornyn:
I wonder if it’s too early to celebrate.
Rove did what he came to do in the WH. Now, I suspect, he’s off on another adventure, aimed at helping Repubs across the country.
It’s also unwise, in my opinion, to assume a Dem is going to win the WH in 2008. In a Ghoul vs. Hill matchup, I’d put my money (not my vote) on the Ghoulster.
Turdblossom surely likes quail:
TexBetsy @ 6
I swore a blood oath to that I would support the Devil him or herself, if nominated to run in opposition to Cornyn. Even by the notoriously lax standards of the Lone Star State, the man is buffoon. Granted, with Kay Bailey Hutchison, it does give us a pair of jokers. Still, I am embarrassed to admit I actually do know who my Senators are…
“Carol” at 20 — We do not allow impersonation of real people on this blog. I suggest you find another nickname — and soon. I’ve posted this warning previously, and if it is not heeded, we’ll be forced to institute a ban. Thanks.
And Sid in Salon today salutes the man:
Alabama biting Rove in the butt:

rwcole @ 18
Howie Klein thinks early money to progressive candidates is the best way to go. So I started sending money four months ago; at least it makes me feel as if I am doing something.
Jonathan @ 21
Seriously now…
Hillary and Bill
or
Rudy and Judy
I don’t think so. America doesn’t want a police state.
Rove the uniter in an unforeseen respect:
There is yet another “Rove” in the WH, but I can’t remember his name. He is rarely mentioned. I’ll try to find out who it is.
OT, but not too..
I live in California. What is going on with Charlie Brown these days?
LS @ 31
Well, iirc Scott Jennings is still around and he looks like rove. Acts like him too.
Contribs to Blue America just one of many ways to participate in
Restore Democracy Now.
Rove’s response to Leahy:
I do believe that Turdb will have a lot more to worry about than helping a desperate Conryn. I am not so sure that Leahy/Wax would not have him dragged back to DC and thrown in the pokey. A far less sympathetic candidate than Harriet and a weasel that could easily turn into a rat.
It also leaves chimpy with a “he was allowed to resign when we found out what he did” wash of the hands.
And the man says he has a diverse employment record:
New poll out from CBS - Clusterfuck at 29% JAR.
Number of people who think that the surge is working is up by 10% or so..
Clusterfuck and the idiot press are probably gonna condemn us to another year of war.
Rove resigns:
Let the shakedowns and influence peddling begin.
Mordida, ba-bee…..
dakine01 @ 32
Could be Joseph Whitehouse Hagin:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joe_Hagin
Rover doesn’t seem like the sort to downgrade his efforts by getting involved in a piddly-ass texas senate race- that would be degrading. He’s one of the historic political figures of all time ya know.
LS @ 39
Interesting…he is a former executive at Chicita…
rwcole @ 41, Rove will multi-task.
So…maybe Chertoff didn’t do anything about Chicita, because of the WH connections to Chicita at the highest level. Apparently, Joe Hagin’s powers rival those of Rove.
Wonder if Chiquita is still the same old robber baron company it was during the years of the Dulles brothers? They were VERY BAD news.
Here’s the man on Bush’s impressive background:
Yesterday Froomkin promised us more on Rove today.
Biodun @ 45
Is he calling the people of West Texas stupid?
Chertoff, Chiquita and Colombia:
http://rawstory.com/news/2007/....._0802.html
He’s sorta implying that, isn’t he?
JF @ 48
Ya think?
And all those who believe in the accent….
I’m thinking they are all involved in another Iran/Contra type operation.
…and all those who catapult the accent/good ol’ boy persona.
Here’s lookin’ at you, MSM
More rats jumping ship?

Those waiting for word from Congressman Dennis Hastert regarding his political future will get their answer this week.
Hastert, R-Yorkville, is expected to make one of two announcements at a press conference Friday — either he will run for a 12th term representing the 14th Congressional District, or he will retire next year.
www.suburbanchicagonews.com/be.....S1.article
OT. AT&T’s secret NASA room.
“The claims made by the ex-employee, Mark Klein, are the basis for a class-action lawsuit against AT&T and affiliated telecoms for illegally harvesting information from U.S. citizens. Tomorrow, reports The Washington Post, judges from the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals will decide whether the class action goes forward — or whether the government is right that 641A is a state secret, and can’t be litigated without compromising national security. The answer probably won’t be determinative — both sides have vowed to appeal up to the Supreme Court — but if the case is shut down, a public window on the Bush administration’s warrantless surveillance activities, recently blessed by a Congressional overhaul of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act, will slam shut.”

Jay Rosen at PressThink has an interesting observation:
Rove has practiced the art of ‘trying to be cute’ all his life. No wonder he & junior bonded.
OT..latest Zogby Interactive Poll had a section on Politics/News/Opinion and Blogs. Looks as if “political power-brokers” are getting worried about the hippies.
Biodun at 56 — I was just reading that Rosen piece. Intriguing, isn’t it?
No surprise there:
Christy Hardin Smith @ 59
Rosen is pretty sharp. I’ve always been a fan of his. He’s also a friend of FDL…*g*
Rove’s first order of Beltway business was probably co-opting the MSM–make them his willing water carriers….
The heck with fair and balanced.
I want honest and accurate.
Steve-AR @ 28
Early money is important. And, if your district is currently represented by a regressive Democrat, you should be helping progressives in your district support a Democratic candidate for the primary who can help build the party, bring young and minority voters to the polling place, and re-energize our political process.
And let’s let Repugs attack one another:
I wonder what has personally driven Karl Rove’s obsession to create the kind of government he has attempted to create. What made that young man focus and spend every living moment devoted to his vision. Why? Why has he resorted to every trick in the book. What was really his inspiration? What is wrong with that person? I don’t think he is mentally well.
And the obsessive adoring bond to Dubya… creepy.
LS @ 65
A belief in the mythos that Nixon was screwed.
Chiquita before 1984 was known by another name, United Fruit Company. The CIA overthrow of the Arbenz Guatemalan government United Fruit Company.
OMG, my friend Robert Duvall is on CNN regarding Haiti. More about him in a minute.
This OT bodes ill for Iran.
Cheney must be happy as a sand flea.
[Mod edited for filter clearing]
dakine01 @ 67
I have come across this notion multiple times and I will NEVER understand it. NEVER. Why do some people go all Gordon Liddy apeshit over this stuff?? This absolute adulation of someone in power? The mythos obviously appeals, but I just can’t fathom it…
Bobby Duvall told me personally years ago (in the 1980’s) that air landing strips in Haiti were being used to repack arms for Nicaragua during Iran/Contra. He went to jail and nearly starved to death for speaking the truth.
LS @ 52
Bingo. And its the same players again for the most part. That’s basically what all this is about. Afghanistan’s heroin crops are BOOMING. It’s no accident.
Fresh thread, up and running…
TexBetsy @ 7
They’re building a volunteer database right now. Sign up at www.ricknoriega.com , and mention what kind of work you’re interested in.
Welcome back, Karl!!!
Great idea, Christy. Feeling flush this morning- just contributed for Rick Noriega & a little something for L.A. home girl Hilda Solis, too.
Off to do some work now. Read you all later…

I think it’s important to recognize that during the time they rise to their peaks, people like Rove and Hitler are really good at what they do.
Biodun @ 77
I scream.
Fresh creamy goodness from Christy.
I think we should dub any candidate that Rove works for, or has worked for, or even appears to weigh in for, a ‘Turdblossom Special’. You know, like Blue Plate Special, or Orangeblossom Special, only disgusting, inedible and unlistenable. Has a ring to it, doesn’t it?
sorry, but no.
In 2006 I gave support to a number of democrats and we’ve been stabbed in the back repeatedly. Including by the likes of John Conyers and Nancy Pelosi, not to mention Blue America candidates like Chris Carney and Joe Sestak.
So no. I’m not supporting anyone anymore unless they show they deserve it. Not in word, not in deed, and certainly not with my money. The people I helped to elect have not brought about the changes they promised. I have no reason to expect that the next batch are any different.
drinkof @ 82
I like it. Planning on stealing it and using it at the earliest opportunity. :)
brendancalling @ 83
While I understand your disappointment-should have heard me cursing out the FISA sellout-the only way to get more and better Democrats, like Rick Noriega, from a state that Democrats have to be damn tough and resourceful in-is to work for them.
Don’t mourn. Don’t piss and moan.
Organize.

Again, NO.
I’m sorry. I wrote about this last week at brendancalling. The system is too deeply entrenched: i think my final wake up call was the O’Hanlonm/Pollack editorial, or more specifically hearing it repeated ad nauseum on everything from NPR to the BBC (and every newspaper) as the opinion of “war critics”. And we all know what happens in September: a democratic cave-in on Iraq that’s gonna make the Utah Mine look like a walk in the park.
Go read Booman’s take on why the democrats are caving on everything and especially Iraq.
Nope. I’m done throwing good money after bad. I’m not helping anyone at all anymore. So far as I’m concerned every last one of those politicians can go to hell.
Then how about pissing in your own cheerios then?
I’m still in this fight. More and better Democrats.
did that, it wasn’t as good as the Scotch.

Just 4 more contributors to the halfway mark.
I’m thinking we can get to that today, which would be Suh-Weet!!!
Brendan, gets a pass however. Better he should have a good surprise when Senator Rick Noriega stands tall on the Senate floor.
Many, many thanks to all who’ve contributed to get us this far.
I know, EPU, but just in case anyone’s here with me.
398
Just two more donors to make the halfway point today.
And, a bonus if we can put together $54 dollars more is that we’ll break $20k as well.
400
We just hit 400 contributors and over $20k in contributions!!!
WOOT!!!!!!!!!
Congratulations to all who worked to make this milestone.
Y’all Rock!!!
