Every once in a while, something lands in my in-box that makes me want to immediately put up a post -- sometimes because of anger or frustration or disgust, but all too rarely it is because of joy at the contents. I got one of those e-mails as a follow-up to last week's Pull Up A Chair, and I had to share it with you guys. This truly is a great example of how just a little bit of paying it forward can make such a huge difference in someone else's life. And you guys helped to do this. You really are an amazing bunch of human beings, and I am so proud to know and interact with you.
From Norman Bier:
You are saving Pretty Woman Bird House. You and your readers. Say it to yourself: I am saving this shelter. Is "shelter" too abstract? Or does the present tense make the statement less powerful? Then try this one out:
I saved a woman this weekend. Say it out loud.
This is not hyperbole. Over the weekend, Georgia Little Shield (the program's director) received a call from a woman who needed to be evacuated. If this had happened on Thursday, the shelter would not have been able to do much more than take the call. But because of your efforts, Georgia was able to tell this woman: "Don't worry about the money -- we have money coming. Just get out and come in."
Your support of the Pretty Bird Woman House made this possible. You saved a woman this weekend. Heady stuff.
Thank you for this. Thank you. Thank you on behalf of Jackie Brown Otter, who started this shelter in memory of her sister. Thank you on behalf of the staff and volunteers at Pretty Bird Woman House. And thank you on behalf of the women who are in need of the services that the shelter provides, whose names and stories you don't even know.
Although the effort to save this shelter originated at Daily Kos, other blogs and many readers have picked up this issue, publicized it and made it their own. Mainstream media often portrays "liberal blogs" as a monolithic entity marching in lockstep, but active members of the online progressive community know that we frequently disagree.
Given how heated some of those disagreements are, it's particularly impressive to see our community come together -- and to see what we can accomplish when we're united.
This has been a communal effort:
--To save a shelter:
--To stem the tide of violence against women in the Standing Rock region.
--To take the first steps in addressing the horrors described in the Amnesty International report that sparked this effort. It's been astounding to watch so many individuals and smaller communities come together in this effort. E Pluribus Unum, as it says on the dollars that have been pouring in.
Speaking of dollars, the effort to date has been amazing, but the work of saving and sustaining Pretty Bird Woman House is not yet complete. As I write this, our donation total stands at just over the 50% mark. This is impressive, but is still only half-way to our goal.
Reaching $25,000 is essential if the shelter is to remain open. Yet our real goal should not be a one-time cash infusion, no matter how large. Let's do the hard work to help the shelter become sustainable.
There are so many ways you can help. Please continue to spread the word about Pretty Bird Woman House and these specific needs that you and your readers can help with.
Donate:
Essential in the short term. Donations can be made on-line

If you live in South Dakota constituents and are interested in helping, we'd really like someone to contact the staffs of the SD congressional delegation to see if they can help on this issue. This community has been very supportive of Congresswoman Stephanie Herseth and Senator Johnson in the past, so we hope they might respond to this issue. Contact me for more details.
We can dream of the day that Pretty Bird Woman House and shelters like it choose to close their doors -- not because they've run out of funding, but because there is no longer a need for their services. Until then, the work you're doing is exceptionally important.
Amen. Look at what reaching out your hand in a small way, when aggregated together with thousands of other hands as well, can do. You have helped to lift up another human being and give her an opportunity to find her own feet, on her own path, with less fear and more courage and safety and care. You have helped to do this, and I thank for that -- from the bottom of my heart. In just a week, the shelter is halfway to its funding goal for the entire year. Amazing.
Mr. ReddHedd figured out that if just half of our readers on a medium-traffic-level day donated just $25 each, then this shelter would raise enough funds to set up an endowment that would enable them to run for years without having to worry about capital for overhead and expenses. What a miracle that would be.
I am so grateful to Hilzoy at Obsidian Wings for e-mailing me about this shelter in the first place. The number of blogs that have put up something on this one shelter, and raised awareness and funds for it, has been wonderful. And, this is where I start to sound like I'm giving everyone a group hug and all, being able to share a good news story with you all -- that is good news because of actions that you took? That is the best part of writing on this blog. So, thank you.
And this is just one -- one shelter -- out of so many all over this nation of ours who are not receiving the help they need to keep operating, and to keep saving the lives of women and families and battered partners. Maybe there is one in your own community that could use a helping hand -- a volunteer to come over and help teach proper make-up, style, and interviewing skills to women who have never been in the workplace but desperately need a job. (I mention this because one of our local shelters had someone put on a workshop like this, and then spent an afternoon going through some donated professional clothing and doing practice interviews and it was very, very helpful for all the women at the shelter. And wonderful for their self-esteem that someone cared enough to walk them through a stressful situation like this. It's the little things, sometimes.)
Or maybe you have carpentry or plumbing or electrician skills and could put them to good use doing some repairs for a local group that helps the needy. Or some clothes that you aren't using, but that would be lovely on someone else who has so little. Or taking an afternoon to go and read children's books to the kids at the shelter, so their moms can get a little time to themselves for an hour or two. Or...well, you get the picture, and the possibilities are truly endless of help that they could use that costs only a little time and compassion.
But just look at what we have been able to help along in a week. You helped save a life this past week. How amazing is that? Let's talk about what else we can do to give someone a hand in our communities, because far too many people need one these days and far too often they are either ignored or passed over or lost in the shuffle. And we all lose when that happens -- especially if the person who needs the help is a small child, full of potential, but feeling empty and uncared for and without hope. Let's talk about giving people a hand up, and about hope. Pull up a chair...

Morning gang. How is everyone? Coffee is tasty, and I’m back home again so life is good here. :)
Good morning Christy -
. . . wow a little good news for a change
had trouble getting in to comments and didn’t even see your post when I tried
got in via rss/Yahoo - which took me to yesterday’s ‘Timing’ thread from Jane - and then just kept clicking through post titles till I found ya
gonna go post over at the pond to see if it helps anyone else
brb :)
Will have to remember to post something about Pretty Woman Bird House on my blogs later today, but I’ve just got to get to work now. My last Saturday hours in the forseeable future.
Want to share a linky or two before I go, though

Rush Limbaugh and the Magic of Barack Obama
Sorry, OT to Marion from downstairs.
Half-mouth full of stitches here. Perio surgery two days ago. I feel your pain. I blame Clinton.
Good morning
I too had problems with this site earlier. Glad all is okay now.
Christy, how was your trip to NYC? I was going to suggest you try to see Steve G but he’s still in ICU and not out of the woods yet. Get well Steve, we need your voice!
Sorry about the hiccups, gang — we were doing some server maintenance earlier this morning. Fine tuning has to be done every once in a while, and we try to do it at off hours — just took a little longer than we expected. Everything should be humming along smoothly now, though.
Paranoia sets in rather easily here. Hiccups can cause severe anxiety.
g’ morning, pups… coffee is ready.
Good on you, Redd!
By the way, I wouldn’t be working this overtime if I didn’t really need the money, so I’m not likely to be one of those readers kicking in some money. But I’ll promote it on my little blogs if that helps.
One more link–also having to do with looking out for those who need it. I hope to get some more stuff to post about this before Monday’s meeting…
Predatory Payday Lending
I’m a little disappointed this a.m. No Friday nite scandal, no doc dump, no resignations. What’s going on? Are they trying to ruin my weekend? Did they finally figure out that the bloggers LOVE Friday nite releases so that we have lots of free time to read-up with no pesky work to get in the way?
Good morning everyone, what a nice post to start the day.
A suggestion to help out, adopt a shelter for the business that you own or work for. A lot of large corporations do community outreach, and if you’re company or firm does this, find a shelter, get involved with the committee at your job and adopt the shelter.
Or with Mother’s Day coming up, I know it’s very last minute, provide some small gifts for the mothers in a local shelter. If gifts are out of budget, perhaps some cards that the kids could give to their moms.
Gosh, I love it. I love it.
I was going to donate to public radio today. I’m with Mr. Reddhedd. I’m in for $25 and I’ll repeat his challenge to help make the shelter’s future a secure one.
That’s good news.
O/T, here’s some more. The Curse of Bush continues; this is Blair’s legacy for hitching his pony to the BushCO Wagon.

Also; “On (Saturday), the Liberal Democrats and the Greens will be considering whether or not to enter coalition talks with the Nationalists.

Heckuva job, Tony!
Uh Mah Gaw.
How do you guy’s get up so early?
I had to be at work at 5:30 this AM for a 16 hr shift so this is a drive by.
Christy, I sent you an email yestiday, did you get it?
I tried to send it to Marcy through the email link at her site but it came back as a bad address.
Maybe you could forward it?
Gotta go, have a good day guys.
OT. WaPo drive by on Obama.
Sally Quinn came to Washington and trashed the place.
And now back to our regularly scheduled programming.
OK, I’m in for $25. And since the card’s out of my pocket, another $25 to the FDL coffers. Anyone want to join me? (I paused to actually make the contributions before writing, so at this point I’m seconding Noonan.)
I don’t know how to do the matching-challenge thing - at least, I don’t have the time or attention span to keep track.
So who’s spreading mulch this weekend? I gotta take delivery in 10 yaahds next week. Uggh!
Busted at 19 — I forwarded it along to Marcy this morning. Was travelling most of the day yesterday and am behind on e-mails, but I spotted it this morning and sent it along it’s way.
Men of color are sometimes thought of as second class citizens. Even worse, women of color are many times thought of as third class citizens. You don’t have to go to the Gaza or Iraq if your looking for grim. Pick a “rez”, any rez and spend perhaps a week there. Things can be awfully not pretty at these places. Violence against all women and children is felonious and an assault against nature and God.

No, I’ve got to figure out how to get rid of the squirrels that have taken up residence in my roof space, which is only 10″ high. Why would rodents move into a house with four cats in it?

This is unsettling:
More than 40 percent support the idea of torture in some cases, and 10 percent reported personally abusing Iraqi civilians, the Pentagon said Friday in what it called its first ethics study of troops at the war front. Units (in Iraq) exposed to the most combat were chosen for the study, officials said.

Greetings from ND.
I’ve had a pair of ducks in the pool for a week. Very cute and fun to watch, but..
I’m trying to decide whether to shoo them off.
‘Mornin CHS. Sorry to have missed you on your Big Apple jaunt. It must be sweet to be back with your family! Now if you’d followed the Yankees to Red Sox territory we’d a bought U a Fenway Frank fersure. Maybe next time…
It’s a beautiful Spring day in New England too. Time for yard work, and cleaning out the garage… Yuck. :)
I would add that it’s not only a great and good thing to support worthy institutions like the Pretty Bird Woman House, but also (though less urgent and poignant) to “adopt” local seniors to give them local “family.” I’ve seen so many so alone, envying the others in their Assisted Living or Nursing Facility who get family visiting. It’s so good to get to know them.
Off the subject: I was saying to Mrs. SOS this AM, about how marvelous it is to have a grandbaby in the family: “Imagine three thousand three hundred similar teenchy gorgeous babies all across our country, all given life by and labored for and birth to by the miracles that are women, all grown up and then all killed by some feckless stupid lying fratboy’s whim, and all so that he and his evil cohorts could get rich… Plus the untold thousands more babies bloodied and maimed for a lifetime… Plus the hundreds of thousands of Iraqi casualties… WHY CANNOT WE IMPEACH THIS BASTARD AND ALL HIS CRIME FAMILY? Because if we don’t, that will set an awful precedent for the Constitution, should we ever be able to restore it to its former pre-eminence in our nation…” Heavy sigh.
Popping back in,
Thanks Christy.
Did you see the one about the chapstick and the cat?
I laughed hard at that one. Notice the name of who sent it to me?
Thats my Dad. We get a kick out of that.

Is Tony Soprano sitting on your patio?
My mailbox had a wonderful Friday surprise too! A few weeks back my husband and I had sent Ned Lamont a small gift and card with Ghandi’s words
It was the least we could do for a man who stood up to an entrenched and corrupt politician.
That Ned took the time to respond with a handwritten note full of hope (not to mention his absolute principled kindness) reminds us all of why so many worked so hard to get him to the Senate.

Places like this have kept me sane.
In the first season of the Sopranos, ducks are used to demonstrate Tony’s softer side. A family lands in his pool, and he becomes really depressed when they leave and don’t come back.
Very OT but I’ve been reading TPM and Froomkin: (and forgive me if this has been answered in a previous thread) If the Congresssional committees doing the oversight of the USA firings find enough evidence of fraud/tampering from the WH (Rove and Miers), can they request a Special Prosecutor to investigate before a Grand Jury (ie, can they start a criminal process to bring these thugs to justice)?
Military sexual trauma — the new face of PTSD
Military sexual assaults — and requests for help — are on the rise
The Pentagon says it is making strides to prevent sexual assaults. Of those treated for PTSD at this program, 78 percent were admitted with military sexual trauma. Therapists at the facility say applications have increased significantly.

P.S. — http://tinyurl.com/3e5jmt LOL HTH :)Good Morning Firepups and Christy. Nothing special this morning but I do have a book recommendation for everyone and that is Barbara Kingsolver’s newest Animal, Vegetable, Miracle. It is just released and I am only in Chapter 2 but it is already a great read. With all the noise and news about tainted food this book’s timing is perfect. How she and her family try to cut the ties to industrial food and live on homegrown and locally produced food.
Great post, Christy.
On the endowment idea: I am involved with our county community foundation. In Iowa, there are several “umbrella” foundations (ours is in Waterloo) that do the accounting and management for a group of counties. The counties can raise money and pass out grants, which is definitely the fun part, without worrying about filing the right forms with the IRS, etc. By pooling funds, the foundations are able to get high-powered investment management as well.
Most states have community foundations, with rules that are receptive to special-purpose funds being directed to particular causes. The Pretty Bird Woman House endowment fund might find a convenient and low-hassle home there.
ReneND @ 35
That’s funny, but you’d have to go back 70 episodes to the first season.
laurie9,
That’s my question also. Can they do it without any input/obstruction from the DOJ? Or must the DOJ be involved (which means that congress would be powerless). I’m getting impatient here. So many scandals, so few repercussions. Including Congressman Cold Cash.
Good morning Christy and Firepups. This Saturday morning thread is my very favorite, but I haven’t been able to participate in quite a while–it’s a very busy time right now.
I’m sending in my $25.00 and will send this post to some friends. Now I’m off to pick up a granddaughter from soccer.
I love you all!
Twisted Martini @ 40
Thanks. Well, these keep coming back and spend all day. They leave at night. My “softer” side wants to name them. The other side thinks they look a little fluey.
Good morning from L.A. Wonderful post, CHS. Will pony up 25 for the

Am glad everyone is enjoying the read on this today. Thought a little good news would go a long way this morning.
Millineryman at 15 — The getting your business to adopt a shelter idea is a really good one. Mr. ReddHedd’s workplace works with our local Humane Society, and they cover a lot of food expenses for the shelter every month. That’s a huge load off the minds of the folks who run the place on a shoestring budget — some really dedicated folks at his office kick in every month, and it has been a lifesaver for the shelter. They also do work with the local mission. This time of year is great to do a clothing drive at your workplace — call the shelter ahead of time and see what is most needed, and then folks at the office can bring things in as they are doing spring cleaning. :)
Twisted Martini
You really do have to get rid of them. They chew holes in wiring and start fires. I know this from recent experience. Also, they trash the place.
Our DNR suggested mothballs to drive out raccoons, and they may repel squirrels, too. You also need to find out where they are getting in and plug the holes with expanding foam. During the day they will be out of there part of the time.
solai @ 39
Amen & hallelujah to that!
(and I’m not particularly religious.)
I’m an American expat living in India at present — but this is absolutely the definition of a worthy cause. I’ve posted about this on my own blog, too, after making a donation.
Who knows — maybe we can turn this viral?
Sounds like a perfect Mother’s Day gift for any cool mothers out there. Better than flowers. I give on behalf of my mother and mother-in-law to worthy women’s shelters every year. They love it. Bet yours would too!!!
Susan in Iowa @ 53
Any suggestions for bees. Don’t want to kill them due to their declining numbers (though they aren’t honeybees). But don’t want them living in my attic either.
fallenmonk @ 44
Sounds like a really interesting book, fallenmonk.
I’m in for $25.00. I wish I could give them millions. But alas I, an Educational Administrative Goddess cannot afford to. I count myself lucky though. I have a steady income, health insurance, a warm and cozy home, waaaay to much food, a car that runs, lots of good friends, supportive family and many other blessing too numerous to list….and thanks to the Public Employees Retirement Fund of the state of Indiana and FDR’s Social Security, I have a fairly rosy future. I’m guessing not many of the women at Pretty Bird House can say this. I hope my small donation gives them the chance.
I dwell in the house of techno-junkies (family motto - TRUST YOUR TECHNO-LUST). We always seem to have various computer parts left over from upgrades, stuff that’s still good but outdated and too slow for our needs.
A couple of years ago, with only a relatively small amount of money (and a lot of trading and scrounging), my hubby was able to put together three complete computers to donate to the local women’s shelter. A couple more upgrades and we’ll have one-three more to donate.
These will be used for typing up resumes and keeping databases.
One person’s junk is another’s treasure.
So let’s DONATE THOSE OLD COMPUTERS AND COMPUTER PARTS!
Not a bad idea to donate those old radios/boomboxes/CD players that still work too.
BTW, have I mentioned lately how proud I am to be associated with you people?
Mornin’ all…Just a quick reminder of yesterday and 1970: OHIO
I’m feeling rather guilty for not donating. I’ve never been one to say ‘no’ to a worthy cause. But, donated to FDL and the John Edwards video within the last 10 days. Thus, my checking acct. needs to replenish a bit first.
Hmmmm, how can I be strapped? The Dow is over 13000?
You helped save a life this past week. How amazing is that?
It can become habit forming :)
Am at the first meeting of a new international society of congenital surgeons, with five hundred members representing 67 nations.
Nelson Mandela wrote us a letter, which our organization’s president read at the opening ceremony, encouraging us to work for peace among nations.
So happy to hear that our combined efforts this week here at home are helping to restore democracy and to save this urgently needed shelter.
Thank you Christy for getting things moving for the families of South Dakota.
Solai 57, If I had that problem I would call Fred, our local beekeeper. They have some sort of national society, which I found through a comment last week, but which google might also reveal. A beekeeper would know whether your bees are keepers, or some africanized wild bunch, and how to remove them.
SIGH. I did mean to type Pretty Bird Woman House. Some Administrative Goddess/Proofreader I am.
According to the most recent update on Pretty Bird Woman House’s fundraising effort, they’ve received only a little more than HALF of the $25,000 they need: http://www.dailykos.com/story/.....2437/9864.
Things are still dire as far as money is concerned, so if you can send anything, it will help.
Way OT, just checked my email and my bulk folder was filled with porn. Filthy topics. Extremely offensive and scary. Is this happening to anyone else? I’ve never been to a porn site. I may need a new email address.

I think I read that these are also troops on 3rd/4th tours. If so, they are becoming quite inured to the violence and probably not coming close to seeing the Iraqis as anything resembling humans. Does not excuse it in any way but does explain it somewhat.
Susan in Iowa @ 64
I’ll call the Cooperative ext. See if they have any ideas.

Great question!
Also, the earnings of S&P 500 companies have increased year over year by double digits for 14 consecutive quarters.
Raise your hand if your earnings have done as well.
Stop the war. It’s money down the toilet. We need the funding here. I find this to be a non-difficult concept. Putting an end to the Bush carnage in Iraq would save lives there and here. Do it! Stop the war! Now!
Shoot, I don’t know what I did wrong with that link to Daily Kos, but it’s in the recommended diaries.

Try running a couple of strobe lights in the attic for awhile. Not sure if it’ll work for squirrels, but according to a friend, it worked on a family of skunks that moved in under his house!
Now if anyone can figure out how to stop a dog from catching chipmonks (she digs them out of their burrows), I’ll be eternally grateful.

A bunch of years ago I was working on a client site in New Haven. We got together with the client and had a big fundraiser party/wing eating contest. Took over a pub for the night, sold t-shirts, whatever. Wound up raising $10k for the domestic violence shelter in NH. Someone convinced the lead client manager that if $5k raised, she’d wear a chicken costume. Since $10k raised, she wore the chicken costume and the client tech manager wore an egg costume. The right managers will often be willing to make a fool of themselves for good causes.
solai @ 57
You do wnat them out of your building as the moiseutre in the honey can cause damage. Call your local Cooperative Extension office, one in almost every county and for their reccomendations or check with local beekeepers, they might want them.

Oooooh, definitely got to get them out of there. Have you noticed any with white spots on their face, that like to hover around you? If so, those are the male carpenter bees - they couldn’t sting you if they wanted to. The females don’t like to sting, but will if threatened. BUT, they can cause a LOT of damage.
We had a colony of SOME kind of bees infest our porch a few years ago. They looked like bumblebees, burrowed into the wood like carpenter bees, but were extremely aggressive - would attack whenever someone sat on the porch swing, and one even chased a child in the yard until it stung her! We tried everything to get rid of them, but within a couple of months they had infested the entire wall of the bedroom nearest the porch. We could no longer sit on the swing, and it was becoming dangerous for the children to even play near the house, so we had to call an exterminator - and even HE couldn’t identify the species. Haven’t seen any of them since, though we still have problems with carpenter bees.
Watching CNN about the tornado damage in Kansas and the idiot woman (cant call her a reporter).. saying “the amazing thing is seeing neighbor help neighbor, saving lives”
OMG…. just how much kool-aide have these idiots drunk?
Neighbor helping neighbor IS the definition of COMMUNITY.

I’m *trying* to do some things - really I am.
About a month ago, a guy stopped me on the street selling postcards for the purpose of buying blankets for a women’s shelter. I gave him some money and told him to keep the postcard. He said that his group was going to have a meal for the homeless the following Sunday at noon in front of the IndyStar Bldg. So, I showed up promptly at noon to help, and there wasn’t a soul there. (these meals for the homeless really do happen here - I’ve seen them - just didn’t happen that day).
Last Sunday, I looked out the window and saw a big gathering over at the park, so I went over to check it out. It turned out to be a walk for the homeless. So I bought a T-shirt, and joined the walk. But they were walking *so* slowly - I couldn’t take it. I walk fast - had to bail; besides, i had no sponsors or anything. But I’ve banged aroud the net here this morning, and found what looks to be a good program for helping the homeless (my particular issue I guess) and found that today they’re having a training program for new volunteers - which began about an hour and a half ago. Aaack! the feeling of ineptitude just grows.
Sorry I can’t contribute any $ to the coffers just now - there’s no money flowing into the jayt coffers. Working hard to get on as a Public Defender here in Indy, but it’s going to be a while, it looks like. When I’m a little more solvent, I’ll be pitching in.
My bees look rather like wasps. But they are very sluggish and easy to swat. They invaded 3 yrs ago and the exterminator came several times with no luck as to how they were getting in and no luck killing them. It’s got something to do with my stove vent so when I open the cupboard over the stove, they fly out.
Then, last 2yrs they were gone and I thought the problem solved itself. Now, they seem to be back.

Hey, ya never know until you try! *l*
Try Iron Butterfly “Inna Gadda Da Vida” - not sure if it’ll work on squirrels, but it used to work on clearing my house of teenagers when I was trying to clean, especially if I danced and threw out some sixties/seventies slang. (”C’mon, let’s get out of here, my stepmom’s acting weird again”)
Thing is, one of my son’s friends liked Iron Butterfly so much he asked if he could download it to his MP3 player!
Now I usually have to use Mozart played VERY LOUDLY, and HAVE been known to resort to the soundtrack from “Fiddler on the Roof”, “Phantom”, or “Cats”
Might work on the squirrels too!

We got blessed again last night, that wall of twisters jumped back into the clouds just before it hit our little Kansas village here, but it literally destroyed Greensburg southwest of us, it hit so so hard it looks like a nuke went off.
I’m going down to take some video and photos when the all-clear is sounded, and they let the rubberneckers back in to gape in awe at the unimaginable destruction one of these monster twisters leaves behind.
If one of these killer storms ever hits a major metro area, head-on, we will surely regret sending all our National Guard overseas, chasing war-manufactured terror, when we have all this natural terror to contend with.
If predictions for severe weather patterns continue to prove this accurate, wouldn’t it be a good idea to reconsider our entire concept of “military service” and “public duty?”
Nature may prove to be all the enemy mankind, as a species, can afford to deal with. Who needs wars and a nuclear threat when you’ve got F-5’s popping up like daisies.
OT, but affecting all of us:
(from the AP yesterday)
“The average price of gasoline topped $3 a
gallon at the pump Friday, amid growing concerns that refineries are simply not making enough gas to meet peak summer demand.
(…)
Gas prices have been driven higher in recent months by a slew of unexpected refinery outages and shutdowns in recent weeks. News Thursday that BP PLC’s 400,000 barrel-per-day refinery in Whiting, Ind., will not be operating at full capacity for several months due to unexpected repairs is just the latest in a string of such announcements.
The outages have been reflected in weekly government data which has shown gasoline inventories to be falling during a season when most analysts think they should be rising. Summer driving begins Memorial Day weekend, and analysts worry refineries won’t be producing enough gasoline by then to meet demand.
“There’s ongoing anxiety about refining capacity, refinery outages,” Evans said.”
This is exactly why I’ve suggested in previous threds the govt. should go into the refining business. If you have seen “The Smartest Guys In The Room” re:Enron, a healthy dose of skepticism is in order regarding these “refinery outages and shutdowns.”
Contrary to popular belief, there is plenty of crude oil around; the issue is refining capacity. Limit refining capacity and prices go up. Simple.
