When asked his name during his constipatingly staged rap debut, Karl Rove responded "Peter...Patrick Fitzgerald." It was an open taunt, an in-your-face jibe at the federal prosecutor who did not bring Rove up on charges in the CIA leak case. In the wake of Senate and House investigative committees looking for Unka Karl to answer a few questions regarding the firing of the eight US Attorneys, Lambert spots the above Hallmark moment, wherein Rove is seen carrying a "Coptix" brochure:
I guess Karl likes the personal touch when he’s putting White House email out of subpoena range. And this photo is the first hard evidence we have of his personal involvement.
Now, who—you may ask—is Coptix? Let’s review:
Coptix administers gwb43.com’s nameservers. (Rove privatized his email at gwb43.com, in violation of the Presidential Records Act).
[]
So: Karl went out and hired his own, bespoke, politically wired nameserver company. Of course, Karl would never give business to any company that hadn’t sworn fealty to the authoritarian agenda, but I imagine Karl is also getting a level of, erm, personal service that he wouldn’t get from a fiddy-dollar administrator like GoDaddy or Yahoo or whatever.
Services like storing one's email safely offshore, or perhaps records destruction could be handled in a snap of those porcine little fingers.
Rove is laughing at the notion that he might be subject to the same laws as the little people, standing behind Commander Codpiece and publicly daring someone to hit him. The sheer arrogance on display is certianly not shocking, but it really does beg for some karma-leveling influence in the universe to knock his block off.

So, what would it take to bring up charges on his violation of the PRA? Is it even enforceable?
grrrrr
Awesome catch! Corrente had a good piece on it… Striking, eh?
Are all of Bush’s men so physically unattractive? Or is it just my disgust of them that makes it seem so?

As I’ve seen others on here say: “They look like Republicans”.
‘Nuff said.
Hey Rovey, didn’t anyone tell you pride comes before a fall.
I’ve been really concerned about those gwb43 and rnc emails being difficult, if not impossible, to get - subpoena or no subpoena. There was some discussion here at the lake about it on Friday that made me feel a little better.
This post makes me worry all over again. I flat out don’t trust them to be forthcoming.
To date Rove seems to have been careful to leave no direct fingerprints, but to work through underlyings such as Sampson, Griffin, Goodling, Jennings, Ralston, et. al.
Targeting that layer of minions seems important as a way to get direct evidence of Rove’s actions, if possible.
This seems a lot like a Mob inquiry, where you work the chain upward to find out who got the orders from the Don.
In the NYT’s on Paul Charlton’s firing, a good read. It does not make the FBI look good: USA Paul Charlton Firing Story
SusanD @ 5
Their greed and lust for power is a dead give-away of their insecurity about their homeliness and, in many cases, portliness.
Bravo Jane!
OT - Bill Bradley virtually endorsed John Edwards just now on the unspeakable & unspellable Suzanne Malvoux at CNN. In the contex of comparing other democrats running for president. Refreshing, of course he is hawking his new book yet it struck me as newsworthy and will clearly cheer the John and Elizabeth Edwards camp.
The sheer arrogance on display is certainly not shocking, but it really does beg for some karma-leveling influence in the universe to knock his block off.
You mean like Rovie commanding the emails to be purged, followed by some Koolaid-intolerant tech revealing the existence of a backup of said emails? Just imagine the look on his face if that actually happened.
Remember, all of those gwb43 email had to get “recieved” somewhere. They would get archived on servers somewhere.
And looking at him, is it any wonder GWB calls him “turdblossom?”
So will Susan Ralston speak Thur?
Shes had her fingers in all of this for a long time.
Will they really release the e-mails from gwb43 or are they scrubbed?
Actually, this makes me feel better about the whole situation. Looks like CREW is on it.
Now where are those “National Security Letters” when you really need one?

Both.

He (or she) wouldn’t even need to be Kool Aid-intolerant. Devious would do quite nicely here.

I suspect a lot of them are insecure about not only their homeliness and their portliness, but also their strong but unspeakable attraction to other men.
All this brings up the off-point question that I never see anyone asking…back when the Plame case first broke, didn’t Pres. Bush state that if anyone in the Whitehouse was exposed as the perps outing Plame, he/she/they would be immediately canned? As a Christian, isn’t Bush to be held up as a man of his word? Why aren’t the Blogs and MSM reporters following up on this? Back to Turd Blossom.
I keep chuckling at the fact that he was joining bush and the SS to “dine” at Porkers.
It could not be more apropos.

I would volunteer to knock his block off…but some people might think that is wrong.
Of course, I could (and would) pledge $15,000 to charity for three rounds in a No Rules ring with Rovie…if that makes it easier to take.
If someone can arrange…please let me know.

subdomain: mail.georgewbush.com (5.00 / 6) (#5)
I discovered this last night: the jury’s out on whether or not it’s significant, but I sure hope someone follows this up.
The subdomain mail.georgewbush.com shares an IP address with ONE site, webmail.focushumanitarian.org. They use different nameservers but it is odd that these are the only two sites using 65.207.101.51.
I also found it odd that when I tried to do a reverseIP check at domaintools.com, I got the following error:
Now who or what is FOCUS Humanitarian Assistance? See this USAID company profile for FOCUS Humanitarian Assistance:
Responds to disasters in Tajikistan, Pakistan, Afghanistan, India, and other areas of Central and South Asia with programs that range from relief and recovery to prevention, mitigation, and preparedness to help people cope with both natural and man-made disasters. FOCUS is an affiliate of the Aga Khan Development Network, a network of agencies that focus on health, education, culture, rural development, institution building, and economic development.
I would still like to know why they share the subdomain IP with mail.georgewbush.com! Also, FOCUS Humanitarian Assistance is under the umbrella of the Aga Khan Development Network. Who is Aga Khan?
His Highness the Aga Khan became Imam of the Shia Imami Ismaili Muslims on July 11, 1957 at the age of 20, succeeding his grandfather, Sir Sultan Mahomed Shah Aga Khan. He is the 49th hereditary Imam of the Shia Imami Ismaili Muslims and a direct descendant of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) through his cousin and son-in-law, Ali, the first Imam, and his wife Fatima, the Prophet’s daughter.
This guy’s organization (one of them) is sharing an IP with mail.georgewbush.com? I’d like to see an explanation for that.. . . . . . http://scoop.epluribusmedia.or.....22612/9031
SERIOULY=SERIOUSLY. Damn, I hate when my fingers aren’t as fast as my brain.

I absolutely agree. I’m not a psychologist, but I’ve always believed each of them secretly doubts his own masculinity. Everything they do, all the rule- and law-breaking. Their lust for blood and violence, all seem designed to scream “Look! I’m a man, a MAN! Really!”
Personally,
Those e-mails were deleted a longggggggggggggggg time ago.
They sure do operate like a criminal syndicate, don’t they?
The link @ 30 lolo is a smoking gun. Please read the whole post over there. It is loaded with juicy bits. They have been working on this for a long time.

I watch Erin Brockovich over the weekend for like the 50th time. I just love the creepy guy in the ball-cap who was instructed to shred documents and “he wasn’t such a good employee.” Let’s hope there are people like that on the inside for these e-mails.
great pick-up, lolo.
their tradecraft sucks.
The problem with deleting e-mails is that you have to have control of all the sites where they might be stored, as well as the backups for the servers they were sent from and received at. (I understand the big ISPs only save headers, so all you’d get from them is the fact that a message went from A to B.) I suspect there are people in DC who are very worried about what might be sitting on backups somewhere.
Deleting the emails doesn’t erase them. From everthing I’ve seen/read the Mis-Administration seems close to being technological illiterates. Who in their right mind would dump 3000 emails for a Congressional hearing and put them on public view?
I’m going to be very amused if their use of private servers is what finally hangs the lot of them…

Of course, but just because he said it doesn’t make it so. In fact, if W sez it, it’s a safe bet that the opposite is so.
I was thinking about the karma aspect, and perhaps the ultimate come-back-around will be the destruction of the old white boys network once and for all.

It’s the Stepford husbands phenomenon.
I’ve always felt that Rove’s email to Stephen Hadley, where he claims that he “didn’t take the bait” when Matt Cooper asked about Niger, reads like it was written on the presumption that it could one day be subpoenaed and scrutinized. Especially since it claims that all Rove said to Cooper was not to get “far out in front” of the Niger story, when we know that he in fact leaked Plame’s role to Cooper. The email has always struck me as planted exculpatory pseudo-evidence.
So one wonders whether more truthful Rove emails on this and other press contacts exist(ed) and whether Fitz ever pursued them, or will now.

If they are not forthcoming (which, of course, they won’t be), what about probable cause or reasonable cause or whatever…they argued that they could spy on people for those reasons in the eavesdropping deal didn’t they - same goes for their evil Patriot Act rationale. What about circumstantial evidence. Throw it back in their faces. Pull out all the stops. RICO or breach of fiduciary duty. I’m no lawyer obviously, but there must be something. They can run but they can’t hide. They will be caught. There are so many more brilliant minds outside the WH than inside. I have faith in that. Tic…toc…tic…toc

With regard to whether the NSA may have vacuumed up any of the RNC emails, didn’t I read once that all Blackberry emails are routed through Canada and therefore technically can be considered foreign communications subject to NSA’s giant data-mining operation? And we know that Susan Ralston was thrilled with the RNC Blackberry with which she communicated with Jack Abramoff.
All your email are belong to us….
One immediate potential bit of fallout from this gwb43.com revelation, including Waxman’s request regarding the use of non-official lines of communication to carry out official business, is the paralysis it might induce in a complex path of information flow that was previously generally unnoticed and undisturbed.
Where do they go now to whisper ?

Although he hires from so-called Christian stock, I hae never been convinced that Bush himself is one of the true believers. He knows the language, images, code, dogwhistles and stuff, but I think there is just too much meanness in him to be one of them. The true believers are sincere. They might be ruthlessly partisan and deceptive but I don’t think most of them would have mocked Karla Faye Tucker or her conversion. Righteousness, yes; cruelty, no.

tidbits from the archives
from Wiki, Peter Fitzgerald:
Throughout his tenure in the Senate, Fitzgerald battled with the state Republican Party leadership. He insisted on the appointment of an out-of-state US attorney, Patrick Fitzgerald (no relation), to investigate corruption in the Illinois state government, which led to several indictments, including that of former Republican Governor George Ryan, who has since been convicted of several criminal abuses of authority. Fitzgerald declined to run for reelection largely because many Republican insiders who had failed to support him in his first run in 1998 had made it clear he would not have their support again, in what he knew would be a much tougher race.
from Wiki, Patrick Fitzgerald:
U.S. Senator Peter Fitzgerald chose not to run for reelection in 2004, leaving Patrick Fitzgerald without a congressional patron. In the summer of 2005, there were rumors that he would not be reappointed to a second four-year term in retaliation for his conduct in investigations into corruption in Illinois and Chicago government, as well as for his investigation of the Plame scandal.
from sourcewatch:
Smear Campaign
Joe Conason wrote in the August 1, 2005 (issue) of the New York Observer that the “Republicans [Are] Ready to Slime Fitzgerald”:
“Circled in a bristling perimeter around the White House, the friends and allies of Mr. Rove can soon be expected to fire their rhetorical mortars at Patrick Fitzgerald, the special prosecutor investigating the White House exposure of C.I.A. operative Valerie Wilson. Indeed, the preparations for that assault began months ago in the editorial columns of The Wall Street Journal, which has tarred Mr. Fitzgerald as a ‘loose cannon’ and an ‘unguided missile’.
from the Chicago Tribune:
Fitzgerald not packing his bags
Chicago Tribune, August 4, 2005
U.S. Atty. Patrick Fitzgerald, his future in Chicago uncertain as his four-year term nears its end, said Wednesday he plans to keep at work ‘until someone tells me they’d like someone else to do the job….You’re very lucky to get the job, you do your job, and if someone tells you it no longer serves the pleasure of the president, then you pack your bags and move on,’ Fitzgerald said in answer to reporters’ questions at a news conference.
The title of that photo should be “The Smugness of Evil”.
Bush, a Christian? bwahahahaha
That would explain, then, why - next to Reagan - he’s attended church less during his tenure than any other president. Not to mention a whole host of other behaviors.
The fact that the Republican Party is a criminal enterprise; they have a huge stake in the ‘08 election. If they no longer have the President and the Justice Dept. protecting them, the financial losses and the potential for prosecution and jail time is very real for thousands. These scum will pull every dirty trick and the run-up to the election will be a knife fight in the alley every day.
With that said, I have mentally taken a 180 degree turn and think Hilliary is our best hope. My pick would have been Gore but I think he has made the same assesment and doesn’t have the heart for it. Even after a Democrat wins the election, the Republicans will make Bill’s time in the White House seem like a walk in the park.
Of all the possible candidates, Hillary knows at an emotional level what is going to happen and if anyone has been immunized to fascist attacks, it is Hillary. Hopefully she and Bill will have revenge on their minds and will restore the Rule of Law.
i’m listening to nancy pelosi’s address to israeli’s knesset, now on c-span…. it is so depressing.

They could do it like we do it here at the lake. Couldn’t they hold meetings etc. the way we have the book salon and late-night with TRex. They could pick one of those websites and chat away about anything and who would know?
Very interesting.
This is the website that the Rove/Coptix picture was pulled from:
http://thegidcumbs.com/dblog/archives/000345.php
If you click the link, you will see that it tells the story of a gentleman who happened to be eating in a Chattanooga restaurant when Bush and a bunch of his staff, including Rove, came in to eat.
Keep in mind that Coptix is located in Chattanooga.
So what do we have here?
We have Rove, with Coptix materials, in Chattanooga, the home of Coptix.
We also have Bush, in Chatanooga, contemporaneously, along with other key members of Bush’s staff.
One wonders whether the whole Bush team made a visit to meet with the Coptix crew while they were in town.
Perhaps the Coptix visit was the real reason that they came to town (he was ostensibly there to talk about health care).
Anyway, someone needs to do a grab of the entire page at the link I referenced above, because it tells the story of the encounter at the Chattanooga restaurant, and it has pictures of Bush and others eating at the table with Rove.
One could infer a lot from the fact that a large Bush team was in Chattanooga at the same time, with Rove, and the Coptix materials.
I really do encourage everyone to click through to website that was source for the Rove picture and see if they can connect any dots.
Here’s the link again:

oh well . . .
Correct me if I’m wrong but didn’t Fitz ask for ALL White House E-mails connected to the leaking of Valerie’s identity as a spy? Fitz didn’t specify E-mails from the WhiteHouse Server. I and any reasonable person can use the reasonable person standared to take that what Fitz meant was ALL E-MAILS sent from or received at the White House regardless of server domain name and all this other stuff I’m not sure I understand. Who ever is in charge of seeing that the WhiteHouse comply with Fitz is in trouble obstruction of justice. I’m betting it was a justice dept lawyer who now faces diabarrment, that and Gonzo has some more explaining to do! Gonzo will say I had nothing to do with it to protect himself. Which leaves the Justice Dept open for a trap! After all if Gonzo didn’t give the order not to turn over all the E-mails who did?
Damn - this is mighty interesting stuff. Great catch, Jane - and great followup information by many about this. I wondered where the photo might be from - it doesn’t look like Rove was necessarily expecting to be photographed (he wasn’t looking his shiny best), but I found the fact that the Coptix document was so obviously displayed a bit suspicious. Unless he’s trying to send Democrats on a wild goose chase, he might be relatively sloppy in not only his appearance that day in Chatanooga, but also his motives.
May karma reach up and bite him in his ass soon - for the good of our country.

From the Presidential Records Act:
Basically, if it’s official business, it belongs to the United States, not to the president. “Deliberations” are explicitly included. This law doesn’t specify that they use the White House communications and archiving systems (though there may well be other federal regs that do), but at minimum, if gwb43.com isn’t made available to Congress and turned over to the National Archives before Bush leaves office, it’s definitely a violation of the PRA.
No penalties in the PRA itself that I can see. Since this is a post-Nixon law, I find it hard to believe that this would be a “nobody thought an administration would be criminal enough to violate this” situation; maybe it’s part of the chapter of the federal code this is contained in.

Oooh, I hope they do! They’d have to communicate to each other where to meet, and considering the technical competence of the Bushies, it probably wouldn’t occur to them that such a thing could be traced. Then after a subpoena of Google caches, they’d be in the position of Ollie North’s crowd after they learned about email backups the hard way.
Or to put it in non-technical terms, they’ve got three choices:
1. Don’t use any form of written communication, which will make it damn hard to keep their lies straight.
2. Hire someone technically competent to set up a secure system for them, which will make it utterly obvious that they’re conspiring to evade archiving regs and congressional oversight.
3. Be clever and try to do something on their own that will be off the books, and end up making it look like they’re conspiring and that they’re idiots.
