The AP (via WaPo) has the details.
Sure, it's a little gloaty to post an extended Snoopy dance at the news...so I'm just posting the extended Snoopy dance YouTube video above because I'm in a really good mood and thought everyone could use it on this cold and snowy Monday (it's cold and snowy here, anyway).
That Bolton resigned? Just think of it as an added bonus. (As Jesus General said in an e-mail this morning, "Isn't it kind of like resigning after you've already been laid off?")
MSNBC reports that there will be a WH press conference on the Bolton resignation at 3:30 pm ET today.
And while she'll likely be vlogging this news at some point soon, I think this is further proof that the wheels have come off the angry conservative messaging bus altogether:
There is no way a man of John Bolton's character would be the willing mouthpiece for the terrible foreign policy direction the administration has taken....
We're screwed.
Wurlitzer down! Wurlitzer down! (H/T to reader ifthethunderdontgetya for the link on this one.) Yes, my friends, it is going to be a bumpy ride in some parts today. Here's hoping that certain areas of NYC are well stocked in Chopin vodka. I'm just saying...
UPDATE: Well, this could prove to be quite amusing:
Alternative names that have been mentioned both inside and outside the administration include the American ambassador to Iraq, Zalmay Khalilzad; Philip D. Zelikow, the State Department counselor; Paula Dobriansky, undersecretary of state for democracy and global affairs; and Mr. Chafee.
I'm not a mean person, but this could truly be comedy gold on so many levels (and so many martinis later...). I've been hearing former Rep. Jim Leach's name bandied about, to be honest, but having Bolton, Bush and Chafee on stage together this afternoon would be...well, I can't stop giggling. Karma can take you on a serious ride when it chooses to do so, can't it?

It’s cold here too- 50 degrees- but it’s supposed to get to 70 so never fear.
Coo Coo Cachoo.
Another one bites the dust!
Christy,
If you, Mr Redd, and the Peanut ever get out to the Bay Area, you’ve got to go up to Santa Rosa and see the Charles Schulz museum. We took The Kid up there about a month ago, and had a blast. (We saw - but passed on - the ice rink Schulz built that sits next door. Next time . . .) I’ve always loved the Snoopy happy dance, but after seeing the museum . . . wow!
Nothing like Crazy Vlog Gal lobbing the “Bush White House foreign policy is antisemitic” stinkbomb after Bolton resigned today. Let the internecine warfare begin…and pass the popcorn.
The Walrus got goo-goo-ka-choobed.
Teehee, I’ll try to keep the schadenfreude to a dull roar.
Here’s a blast from the past!
Oooooooooooooooh I Hate That Rabbit!
Yay — Snoopey dance!
I expect the right wing, used to getting their way on everything, is going to lurch into unhinged territory today.
ifthethunderdontgetya @ 10
I’m worried that she’ll be whipping both of her regular readers into into a draft Bolton for president frenzy.
Then, again, a vlog campaign for that would have a chance for Pam to really earn immortality via YouTube.
Where have you gone boltin’ John?
Pammy turns her lonely eyes to you
Boo, hoo, hoo
jonny408 @ 14
Yeah, I got bigger when I heard this too.
Want to start a pool betting on when Bolton gets his shiney new gold medal?
Big day over there at atlasjuggs. She might get to 4 comments before her post has been up for a whole hour.
I’m going back in…I want to see it go down, so to speak.
pontificator at 12 — hey! Good too see you in these parts. (And yes, I just could not help myself this morning with the Snoopy dance…)
Sweet.
Oh this is rich, here’s the 4th comment.
Teh ‘Quality Snark’ indicator has been raised to Nukular Redd at FDL this morning.
This is fun.
Okay, if we’ve used the “extended” Snoopy Dance for Bolton, what will we use for Cheney? You have to think about these things!
Here’s Frank Rich in yesterday’s NYTimes about Bush’s sociopathology:

CNN says the whitehouse has released a statement about the bolton resignation. something about calling Dems ‘obstructionists’…
haven’t found it online yet
PLATO RETREATS
twolf1 at 24 — ooh, that’s an original one. *rolls eyes* Are they including members of their own party, you know — REPUBLICANS — who told them to knock it off, they weren’t voting for Bolton and he wasn’t getting out of committee in that “Democrats” moniker? Ouch, painful…NOT.
I got epu’d and want to make this point from previous thread
Oilfieldguy @ 7
Mid-terms, Colbert and Keith O. have shown there is a market for disgust. Time to cash in, media whores.
they did indeed show us there was a market for contempt against those that would use our country as their own personal toy
however it was clear this market was robust years ago, and from the firs olberman “special op ed”, yet the media crawled under the bed and drank their kool aid, only to dispense same koolaid to the rest of this country
they would still be dispensing their kool aid if the repukelicans held majority in even one of the houses
they have been in dereliction of their responsibility as the fourth estate.
we need to make sure that never happens again
WE NEED TO BREAK UP MEDIA CONSOLIDATION
no if’s and or but’s we need to invoke anti trust and if they aren’t sufficient we need to write new laws to make sure the media is NOT consolidated into a corporate propaganda machine
This ads to the festive feeling of the season.

BREAKING - Bolton to join the WBMC Tour
Novak sticks a knife deep into Clusterfuck’s back this morning-
Et Tu Bobby?
Clusterfuck beside himself- Laura says :
“What’s the prob? Just take a few of THESE and everything will be OK-”

No, but the imagery that evokes may be just right.
Yeah Don’t let the door catch you between the ears on the way out!
Buh bye!
Afghanistan is now producing more opium than ever before in history
The White House is using the entire excess supply–
Pleasant dreams Clusterfuck- many have wondered how you were able ta keep the dream alive in the face of so much REALITY.
If you see a crazy woman driving a car towards the UN at high speed, you’ll know who it is.
“They can’t hurt my John” will be her last words as she smacks into the gate
If I were a magical thinker, I would think some kind of harmonic convergence was happening. There is a full moon out and there are only 17 days to the solstice, and after that the days start getting longer, and we already have crocuses coming up out in the pots on the deck, and, and… Bolton exits.
Bet they’ll give Bolton a swell party at the UN on his way out…
And this brings us back to where we got onto this Merry Go Round-
Condi kicked Bolton out of her group and into the UN cause he’s an ASSHOLE- so does she take him back now?
steve at 36 — oh man…I hope she has some friends who can perform a vlogging intervention before that…
scarecrow @ 22
Perhaps a special episode from the Keyboard Kommandos would serve. Would The Editors accept a commission?
Most organizations have a few ASSHOLES–often much money and time is wasted tryin to FIX em- but in the end- ya have ta dump em. ASSHOLES never change- and they cause ENDLESS misery and chaos..
Clusterfuck would have known that if he had ever worked for a living.
From the Post:
Now, Mr. President, just because you’re the Decider doesn’t mean you get what you want.
Oh, this brings me such joy!
Clusterfuck thinks he was born with the right to an up or down vote!!
Fuckwad!
(TEARS FLOWIN)
“They didn’t even give me my up or down vote”
(Clusterfuck exits stage left- whining every step of the way)
Greek Chorus “LOSER!”
rwcole @ 43
He didn’t take their advice so they withheld their consent. Seems there are several other parts of that document he has a problem with, too.
The time has come the Walrus said,
To talk of many things:
Of shoes-and ships-and sealing wax,
Of cabbages and kings,
And why the sea is boiling hot,
And whether pigs have wings.
Lewis Carroll, ‘Through The Looking Glass’
rwcole — if this were a parliamentary system, George Bush would not survive an “up or down vote.”
Why can’t Pammy just be content with shopping like the rest of the Lawn Guyland yentas?
not quite;
he wasn’t Lated off, he didn’t quit, he didn’t quite, he didn’t go on vacaction
the was fired by the people we elected to congress
no other way to put it
well, maybe there is;
fires, canned, forced into retirement, gotten rid of
fired fits best
So what horror will they visit upon us for the next nomination?
Here’s Drudge’s headline:
“Bush Accepts Bolton’s U.N. Resignation…
…Blocked by a Democrat filibuster “
Uh- how do ya think this was gonna get to a fillibuster chucklehead?
Christy Hardin Smith @ 8
It all depends on which line of Abrahamic descent a Semite is sitting on, doesn’t it?
old gold @ 46
man, does bolton look like a warrus or doesn’t he?
In his last few days on the job, Bolton directs his assistant to clean up a few last ends that have escaped his attention before now.
Pretty skinny walrus
Good Morning!
“Blocked by a Democrat filibuster”? Did I sleep through that? Which alternate universe did that happen in? Because it sure as hell didn’t happen in this one.
Drudge takes GOOD drugs.
rwcole @ 55
twerpy fits better then sknny
he looks like a starving twerpy, skinny little walrus

How about “Dancing in the Street” and at the end we can greet his replacement “with open arms and flowers.”
Pam at Atlas Shrugs for UN Ambassador.
What more could we want.
-GSD
NRO is calling for Ambassador Ricky Santorum.
Time to get to the bottom of the international man on dog epidemic with that nomination.
-GSD
Went to Atlas Slugs for the first time just now. Here’s my summary of their synopsis:
Bush needs to demonstrate that he is superman strong, ignore the pacifists like Condi and do his Texas swagger and tough talk, then all will be right with the world (except for the fifth column liberal media and the dhimicrats).
Bush’s (war) plan is right - everyone else is wrong and/or disloyal. Bolton quit because Bush’s plans were too benevolent - too much carrot and not enuff stick. Bolton is a great man - was never critical of Bush - even though Bush wanted Bolton to kowtow to the enemy. This was not Bush’s fault (nothing ever is) because
Bush lost his hardliners, shoulda never let Rumsfeld go.
Now there will be way more islamo-a**kissing, which is most hated.
Makes sense, right?
I surmise that what they wish for is a glassing of the entire region.
Perris @ 49:
How about ‘made redundant’.
OT..but this link was posted deep in the Late Nite thread. How many others who tried to do the right thing are being punished by this psychopathic administration?
www.progressiveu.org/145434-wa.....g-her-book
… and in other collector news, the prices of the Bolton action figure are falling on the recent word that…
(but I repeat myself)
Scarecrow - Congratulations on your excellent front-pager! Hope it becomes a regular feature.
I am pleased that John Bolton will not be representing me and my fellow United States citizens at the U.N.. But I would not read too much into his resignation. His successor will continue to veto any resolutions that are considered unfriendly to Israel. And the same will be true of any Ambassador that will be appointed by the next President…even if he/she is a Democrat. We’re going to continue to alienate moderates in the Arab world with our Middle East policies.
OT - Republican Sen. Sam Brownback, a Kansan, has taken the first step toward launching a 2008 presidential bid, The Associated Press reports.
GSD at 62 — Why do I think that it isn’t all of NRO, but merely KLo — Santorum’s fangirl.
scarecrow @

In keeping with the happy dance theme, there are a couple of great dancing scenes in the new movie Happy Feet. If you haven’t seen it, picture this: Savion Glover and Robin Williams. Yeah.
Ricky? Dog’s best friend? The UN? And let the WORLD know what kind of nutcases we raise here? Great idea!!
Bolton is kinda like George Costanza or Cosmo Kramer. He never really got the job in the first place, he just showed up at the office. So it’s stretching things a bit to say he’s been laid off or fired.
there are many unemployed Republicans from which to choose a replacement, but I nominate George Macacawitz Allen.
twolf1 @

Looks like the Good Lord gave old Sam the nod after much prayer.
Finally, a leader that God has chosen!
-GSD
Christy, it ain’t even Ricky’s gal, it is this assclown.
*xyz @ 68
Thanks. The hope was to just let Christy catch up on reading when/as needed. I can’t understand why a mom and full-time blogger doesn’t have time for this. ;)
As it was, Christy had to stay up late fixing what I drafted to fit in the WordPress, which apparently doesn’t like Mr. Gates that much. So I still owe her, big time.
A plan engineered by “Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) to eliminate all extended recesses except for the traditional August break during the 110th Congress may have an added benefit for Democrats,” Roll Call reports.
“It could be a back-door way of preventing President Bush from unilaterally installing controversial nominees in key executive and judicial branch posts through recess appointments, a favorite tool of the president over the past six years,” John Stanton writes.
Conservative columnist Robert Novak wrote about Reid’s plan the other day.
“Sen. Harry Reid, leading the Senate’s new Democratic majority, is framing next year’s schedule in a way that will make it difficult, if not impossible, for President Bush to give recess appointments to nominees blocked for confirmation,” Novak wrote.
(Raw Story)
God bless John Bolton for being too cowardly to continue his existence as the biggest asshole on the planet. Xmas came early!
“Brownback”
Cause people with any sense are already shittin all over him.
I hear Katherine Harris might be available.
Peterr @ 72
That works. I see that despite the rightwingers branding Happy Feet as liberal/enviro “propaganda,” the movie was #1 this weekend. The sky is
warmingfalling and a whole generation is at risk of thinking.Scarecrow at 76 — Was more than happy to help out. :)
Further amusement from Der Shrubbenfuhrer in the CNN/AP piece:
Notwithstanding all of the amazingly mendacious statements in the above paragraphs, does anybody seriously believe that Bush coherently spat out all of those highfalutin’ words?
Hackworth,
There is also a new subtext to many wingers. They are literally hoping for a really tragic terrorist attack(my own colleague was hoping for a Beslan style school massacre)in order to really prove to all of these “sleepwalking Americans” just how evil the Muslims are.
Nice mindset eh.
-GSD
Not that 9/11 wasn’t really tragic mind you.
I’m actually dreading who Bush might nominate next. There are quite a few far right crazies looking for jobs at the moment. Katherine Harris for UN Ambassador? Santorum? Conrad Burns? If Bush goes for a newly ex-Congressperson, please let it be Chaffee if only because he doesn’t appear to be insane. That’s a might low bar, I know.
The UN- a plot of fertile ground for planting dead goopers?
Tom @ 80
Bwahahahahahaha! OMG…teh funny.
EvilDrPuma at 83 — no.
rwcole @ 79
Foul, foul…too easy! That is far, far beneath your abilities, rw. If you’re gonna go low, go hard!
If yer a gooper- an ya fought well (stupidly that is) and LOYALLY- well then ya don’t get buried in Arlington- but we CAN plant ya in the United Nations.
Christy Hardin Smith @ 87
Listen to you, darlin’. You did get some extra sleep!
Christy Hardin Smith @ 89
Your Honor, the prosecution rests.
By the way, I just watched March of the Penguins for the first time. The Christianista’s really embraced that movie.
Even though it was made by French people. And even though the Penguins get to fuck a different mate every year.
Talk about grasping for straws.
-GSD
Terry in Maryland @ 85
Reid plan may kill future Bush recess appointments
twolf1 at 88 — um…does the WH fully comprehend the meaning of the words “Democratic” and “filibuster”? Because I do not think that the words mean what they think they mean — especially given that Bolton never made it out of the foreign relations committee because Senators from BOTH sides of the aisle on multiple occasions found him unfit and unqualified for the damn job.
And the media had better call the WH on this today, or there is going to be some shit.
GSD @ 94
Wow. Even Newt Gingrich only officially gets to do that about once every ten years.
Christy Hardin Smith @ 96
Forgive my ignorance, but who is this Perino bozo who actually makes the “Democrat [sic] filibuster” claim, and does he have any connection to the White House?
EvilDrPuma @ 97
It also “took a village” of Penguins to make the whole breeding process work.
-GSD
What I wanna know is- How does Bolton get brown hair and a grey mustache?
snowballs is having a presser at 1pm on cspan2 today– hopefully the media will jump all over him, Christy.
rwcole @ 100
He moonlights as a test animal for Christmas tree flocking.
Wonkette would be happy…they need Katherine Harris just like Sadly, No! needs pammy.
EvilDrPuma @ 83
Stranger things have happened, EvilDrHoratio, than are dreamt of in your philosophy. As a possiblity, I tender the irrefutable evidence of Edgar Cayce, the “Sleeping Prophet”. I contend that George Bush is channeling William Sapphire (he is dead, isn’t he).
Katherine Harris would be perfect.
This could spark another Reese Witherspoon
legally blonde sequel.
Dana Perino, deputy WH mouthpiece and spokesmodel.
johnSwifty @ 104
Bush? Only politically.
angie @ 106
Thanks. Okay, so it’s official. Get the WH a fucking dictionary.
Evil at 98 — Perino is a woman, and she works in the WH press office with Tony Snow. So yes, direct connection. And clearly thinks we can’t see manipulation of the facts when we read them. Oh. so. wrong.
Reading Pam’s defense of Bolton is hysterical - as though Bolton had resigned out of principle.
I’m sure she’s already ordered up another case of Grey Goose to drown her sorrows.
The press may be in a mood ta take a piece out of Snow’s ass- let’s see!!
Christy Hardin Smith @

I fear you are asking too much from them.
Christy Hardin Smith @ 109

Safire (sp?). But perhaps words of his demise are premature; I do not wish to be a nettering nabob of negativsm.
Today begins the last week of the lame duck gooper congress..raise yer glasses high!!
twolf1 at 113 — you know, I have noticed a little gleam in the eye of a few of the press folks as they beat Tony Snowjob about the head and shoulders in the press room. And, frankly, I’m hoping for a little of that today. Holden needs a good gaggle today, don’t you think?
