No time for speeches. No time for analysis. No time to do anything but execute our agenda on the ground and get voters to the polls next Tuesday.
If you missed all the great discussion and advice from last week's thread, you might want to take a peek. We have a bunch of awesome people hanging around these parts, members of the Blue Army. Here are our Blue Army "enlistment" recommendations:
- Contact Do More Than Vote and use their easy interface to get connected to the right volunteer organization for you in your area. DMTV is now up to 57 chapters in all competitive states, but even if you're not in one of their towns, they have ways you can help. There's a DMTV update below.
- Nervous about the idea of door knocking? Don't be: people are very welcoming, especially this year. Look at the polls: people have Had Enough and they want change. Here's a great introduction to canvassing from a diary at Dkos (hat tip to Blue Army member xyz).
- Volunteer to become a poll worker. It's not too late in most places, and they need people on standby as well, in case people get sick or don't show up. Let's not just complain about fairness at the polls; let's become part of the solution. To sign up, go here. They've been asking for poll workers in my area onthe radio, so I'm sure your area could use help, too.
- Volunteer for Howard Dean's new army through your local Democratic Party. Just show up at your closest party office and they can put you to work.
- MoveOn has a great online interface that can allow you to phone bank from your home for any race in the country where help is needed. It's called Call for Change, and it's fantastic. Please let me repeat: you can stay at home and help out anywhere in the country. This utility is as potentially groundbreaking for our side as ActBlue has been. MoveOn's whole year has been geared up for the next few days, and they need you to attend a house party (over 4000 nationwide) to hook up for base mobilization. Here's a diary with loads of direct volunteer feedback about the MoveOn stuff this cycle. Check out the testimonials in the comments!
- Party at the Polls with Working Assets on election day. This is a project to organize local, community-oriented events at or near polling stations on Election Day in order to boost community turn-out. These are non-partisan events, so not everyone is interested. Although, if you know what neighborhood you're turning out, they can be very partisan. By linking voting to a nearby party, they hope to boost turnout. Today is the last day to sign up, so people can get the stickers, buttons, fliers, and kit in time.
I'm sorry the cheerleaders are in red. I toyed with not using this clip for just that reason, but in the end, I kept it. I like to gawk at cheerleaders.
If you have any misgivings about helping out here in the home stretch, let me whisper two words to you that make the wingnuts piss themselves: Speaker Pelosi. And if that's not enough, think of John Conyers overseeing the House Judiciary Committee, or Henry Waxman running the Committee on Government Reform, investigating war profiteering.
Now that would be something to cheer about. To get there, remember: person to person contact matters most, and the next few days are our final window to make our impact to change the course of the country, restore the Bill of Rights, save our environment and pad our filibuster-proof margin against fascist judiciary appointments.
George Stern sends in a DMTV Update:
DMTV is chugging along well. We're hearing again and again from all of our city coordinators that new, active, and energized volunteers are showing up at campaigns all across the country. Many of the new volunteers were referred from the blogs. Blog readers and netroots activists becoming grassroots volunteers! It's all very exciting. The energy and optimism is pouring out of everyone who's writing to us and getting active through us.On Friday evening we are changing our pages to reflect the campaigns' 96-hour plans. We'll have direct contact information for every competitive campaigns' GOTV coordinator on the site, so that a volunteer can immediately get plugged into a campaign, at any time over the final four days.
We're trying to not only get blog readers to take advantage of the site, but to also get them to pass it along to friends, family, neighbors, and co-workers, since the final four days are when even those who aren't usually active are willing to buckle down and put in a few hours.
So, how are the field troops this week? I've been making calls for Webb. What have you been up to?

Ed Shultz is ranting about the man who is head of the Evangelical Church with 30M members and he has been outed today by a gay male prostitute(Mike Jones), Apparently, this man has been hired by the preacher for the past two years.
The preacher is married and has five children. This is in Colorado Springs. Haggard has a 14,000 congregation in his own Church.
Time magazine did a feature article about the preacherTed Haggard.
Haggard was also featured in Harper’s “Soldiers of Christ”

I’m better with the trees than the forest, to be honest. I like staying busy and being with the boy. The “big picture” can get me down, but this really isn’t about me. The “why me?” narrative is just another form of exceptionalism, in my opinion. As if anybody is exempt from suffering!
I’m going up to CT, not to get away, but to participate in something hopeful and affirmative. There have been times lately that I’ve felt disempowered, and this trip will remedy that.

GOTV on the individual basis…. Be responsible for getting 5 voters to vote…. have them do the same.
Talk to everyone you have contact with, the bank clerk, drycleaner, daycare worker, grocery clerk, hair dresser, Letter carrier, UPS/FEDEX, etc…. talk about how important voting is, how their voice does count.
If we turn out in large numbers, turn out early at early voting centers or mail in ballots, they it will be harder for anyone make it questionable.
Early returns are HUGE for Dems here in AZ with leads for Pederson-Senate & Harry Mitchell- CD-05 (throw Hayworth out).
I walk my neighborhood daily, just for exercise, walking to GOTV will be easy. “Hey its the lady who walks” (duh)….. the rest is easy!
Thanks for all the work you’re doing, everyone. Only 5 days! Let’s get it done.
firepups (and friends) in CT this weekend, let’s meetup on Saturday night at the grand finale rally for Ned’s “Stand up for Change” and see tommy yum and ken perform “Have your Had Enough”
The rally is 7pm to 8pm, then we can go to Sullivan’s for a beer or late dinner (ctbob’s location suggestion - it’s close and you may remember it from the pre-primary meetups).

In the Holiday Inn in Richmond Indiana last week, I got to talking to the housekeeping lady, and older woman clearly from the area. She told me she doesn’t vote in midterms, only in presidential elections, so I started asking her about medicare and the doughnut hole stupidity, about Iraq (everybody out there knows someone in the Army), and about corruption. How her vote for a change could make the difference in changing all that for the better. How the simple act of voting for someone for congress who has her best interest in mind was the same thing as actually going to Washington and voting on bills herself.
I didn’t get a commitment, but she was thinking about it all when I left. It makes me feel all patriotic.

Slightly OT - did anyone see the great quote from Andrew Sullivan?
“This isn’t an election - it’s an intervention.”
Luff that.
Nice Rolling Stone article from Matt Taibbi.
Nothing personal, just business.
Oh, the Rude Pundit has such a way with words:
“Fuck them for…well, you know what? Just fuck them.
Fuck them all, all the Republicans in Congress, all members the conservative spooge-bucket brigade, all their corporate masters yanking on their nipple clips and shoving cold cash up their asses for their obeisance, all the liars and sinners and avaricious rats of the evangelical right, and especially all the wads of fuck in the White House. They all had their chance and they fucked it up. So fuck them.
When you walk into the voting booth on Tuesday, no matter where, with that rage burning in you, stab that motherfuckin’ punch card, beat the shit out of that Diebold touch screen, and yell, “Fuck them” as you vote them into oblivion.”
GOTV and fuck them. Has sort of a nice ring to it.

Oh, and Tony Snow will be on next.

We will have a poll monitoring presence in every county in NYS this year (and next year we will be spreading virally to a state near you) There is also a Democratic LAwyers Council in DC, you can find a link to it’s website by going to the DNC website and click through to the voting rights institute page.
Howard Dean has made the Democratic Lawyers Council a feature of the 50 state project and youcan get info and sign up at the DNC website to help monitor in your state.

Close a poll? Maybe I’m just especially obtuse today, but I don’t know what that means. Possibly someone who could do this doesn’t know, either.
Donna Brazile is CNN’s house Democrat. She undermines the party’s strategy, tactics, policies, and politics better than RGJoe. I once felt something for her — when I read her account of her Election Day 2000, hearing by phone from her sister in Florida who was denied the right to vote, lacking THREE forms of ID.
Now, though, she is in it for herself. Howard Dean needs to fire her after Election Day.
Ted Haggard steps down as leader of one of the largest Evangelical churches in the country.
Mike Jones, the accuser, has been trying to get MSM to take notice of this for the past three months - he says because of the Pastor’s hypocrasy. He did not know who Ted Haggard was until he saw him on tv a short while ago.
Now James Dobson is involved; says there is going to be an investigation. As Ed Shultz says, “The bumper sticker says “Focus on your own damn family”.
tommy yum @ 34
Would that be Ted Haggard, by chance?
Jim Webb has cut a tremendous ad for Tammy Duckworth which I found on Kos. I had just refused to contribute to the DNC but quickly made a contribution to Tammy. What a gal!
Tweety was just on with his 4 talking heads and they were all saying that many races are too close to call and that the fact that Allen and Webb are in a toss up (Charlie Cook’s definition) after all of Allen’s missteps is a sign that the republicans’ money and dirty ads are working.

I agree Donna Brazile appears awfully self-serving but was unaware she worked for the party/Dean and simply assumed she was on CNN’s payroll. Taking a charitable view it is possible she is just one more victim of the Hill-Bill party of triangulation. Heh, heh, heh!

Also points out governors races in Nevada and Alaska are winnable for the Democrats.
For Republicans, Democratic iceberg straight ahead.
Also, new NH polls show (D) Hodes leading 6 term incumbent Bass and show (D) Carol Shea Porter in the margin of error behind (R) Bradley–she has shown movement that indicates a tidal wave.

it may not be sooooo exciting up here for the pundits, but it is for me. I am trying to GOTV for both of these dems and it will matter and help to turn NH blue and pave the way for progressives nationwide. Lynch is gonna win– he has an extremely high approval rating and when these two fine folks take it away from the congressthugs, we can go about the business of getting rid of Gregg and turning Sununu into a dem or an independent– or dumping him too.

Good catch, did not see that. I liked this part:
Fitzgerald - who read all of Loftus’s books and research himself to prepare for the hearing - found a line in one of her books that raised doubts about her research. Loftus responded, saying. “I don’t know how I let that line slip by.”
Angie,
Today’s poll had (D)Lynch leading (R) Coburn 71% to 18%.
If that holds, it will be the most historic blowout in NH history.
There is going to be a Hodes/Lynch rally tomorrow at 10:15 in Nashua at the Hunt Bldg. If I can get out of work, I’m going.

now why on earth would he do that? Now that he finally does no longer have to live in the closet. Gays can be rousing pastors, they even are bishops in the Anglican church - so no need to step down for our good friend Ted Haggard. Go Ted!
Got this in an email from “Old Gardener” who like myself is volunteering for Carol Voisin. She has been calling all the County Election offices to get an idea of how many people have already turned in their ballots, voter registration by party, etc.
An early indicator…?
“These results from Umatilla County are real time figures that I got just a few minutes ago.
33.2% of voters have turned in their ballots.
39.1% of Democrats have turned in their ballots
35.2% of Republicans have turned in their ballots
22.2% of Independents have turned in their ballots
26.6% of other parties have turned in their ballots
The raw numbers are:
3,713 Democratic ballots
4,712 Republican ballots
1,502 Independents
256 other party ballots
The percentages so far contrast with the spring primary in Umatilla County, when 49.1 % of Republicans cast ballots and only 34.9% of Democrats cast ballots. 16% of Other voters turned in their ballots.
An interpretation of this might be one presented yesterday in the Eugene
Register-Guard. “Leaders from both parties agree…that after one week of voting during Oregon’s 18-day balloting period before an election, it’s typically the Republicans and not the Democrats in” the situation of having
a higher percentage of ballots in.
A Republican leader said “it gave her concern that the pessimistic predictions for Republicans was depressing Oregon GOP voter’s interest in Tuesday’s election. All they’re hearing about is all this doom and gloom
and how the tide is going to be Democratic and I don’t that you can discount that.”
rat bastahd @ 82
That’s huge for Plamegate.
You’re welcome angie.
It’s a great deal, $30.00 off a night from booking directly through Extended Stay. Perhaps it could motivate someone who is unsure about going due to expenses.
Ha ha, on NBC Nightly News Brian Williams just said that Haggard was a man who had enjoyed “extraordinary assess - access - to the White House”

Tucker is missing the point. It’s about legitimate questions and free speech.
“CHRISTIAN CONSERVATIVES’ BAD JOKE:
I noticed that our friends at places like RedState and The Corner haven’t had a lot to say about allegations that conservative evangelical leader Ted Haggard paid a male escort for sex over the past three years. Then I realized this story hasn’t gotten much play because it doesn’t involve a poorly delivered joke. So here goes: If you study hard, do your homework, lead a moral life, try to practice what you preach, you can do well. And if you don’t, you end up as the pastor of a mega-church in Colorado, the head of a major grassroots evangelical organization, a prominent adviser to the president, and, allegedly, a breathtaking hypocrite.
