[Ret. AF Lt. Col. Charlie Brown will be with us today to chat in the comments section about his candidacy for the CA-04. Please drop by and give Charlie a great FDL welcome! -- CHS]
The kinds of Inside-the-Beltway/corporate media pundits who specialize in rear view mirror predictions aren't picking up on many of the Blue America candidates yet. Many of our challengers are still under the radar to the pundit class -- but not to their opponents.
The huge Republican registration advantage in California's very gerrymandered fourth congressional district has helped incumbent wingnut John Doolittle feel secure since he was first elected in 1990-- that and the kind of special interest money (more on that below) he has been able to spend to defend his seat. In 2004, Doolittle spent over $900,000, and the Democrat spent $2,061. Two years earlier another Democrat managed to muster $7,548. Doolittle countered that with around a million. He took 65% of the vote both times, even more than Bush took in the district. The race is 2006 isn't quite so one-sided.
But before I tell you about Charlie Brown, this year's democratic candidate in California's fourth district, I want to make sure you know who John Doolittle is and why his race is so important nationally.
If Charlie is at a disadvantage because of registration and because of the corporate money flooding into the district to protect Big Business' favorite rubber stamp prostitute, Charlie has one over-arching advantage: Rarely is there a race where the choice is so stark and clear, and where there can be no question about who is wearing a white hat and who is wearing a black hat.
I mean you get a similar dynamic in McNerney v Pombo, Space v Ney, Tester v Burns, Sestak v Weldon, Laesch v Hastert, but when it comes to alleged sheer and blatant corruption, few others can hold a candle to John Doolittle.
Most congressional slimeballs specialize in one or two genres of criminal behavior. Not Doolittle. Like Bob Ney, Doolittle has his greedy fingers in every single pot: he's raking off gambling profits from Abramoff's Indian tribes; like Jerry Lewis, he's selling earmarks to municipalities in his own district; taking bribes money from corporations selling shoddy military equipment like Duke Cunningham; working the Tom DeLay prostitution angle in the Marianas; allegedly he and his wife rake off 15% of every dime that comes into his campaign; he's virtually on the payroll of Big Oil, Big Pharma, Big Finance and every corporate special interest ready to shell out the "legalized bribes" for legislators who won't think twice about selling out their constituents' vital interests for a pot of gold.
And if John Doolittle comes off a little like he's from another planet from time to time-- like when he made his infamous and snide remark about the kind of people who eat at Baja Fresh in the midst of demands that lobbyists stop bribing congressmen, it's probably because he really is not like the rest of us.
Basically, he's a guy who has never held down an honest job in his life, having been a professional politician/whore since he was 30, always profiting at the public trough. Utterly out-of-touch with the real life concerns of ordinary Americans, Doolittle was born within walking distance of my house in what was once a lily-white Republican enclave of Los Angeles (and is now far more diverse, as well as economically and culturally vibrant). Neither diversity nor vibrancy -- culturally or economically -- have been served by John Doolittle's shameful career in politics.
I mean, we're talking about a congressman who can't think of a better way to represent his district than to introduce 3 separate bills to give congressmen $130 daily expense accounts while, of course, consistently voting against raising the minimum wage for people who aren't lucky enough to be able to eat at a Baja Fresh, or even afford medical care for their families, and who probably can't comprehend why someone making over $158,000 a year (with an unbelievable package of benefits that ordinary Americans can only dream of) is constantly asking for more taxpayer dollars for his expenses. The tiny minimum wage increase Doolittle has fought against would put less money per week into a worker's pocket than what Doolittle wants for "walking around money" per day (and which amounts to another $32,500 increase in congressional pay raises). Even Doolittle's greedy and self-serving Republican colleagues wouldn't support him on these outlandish demands.
It would be an infinite task to go through all the filth and corruption that has earned John Doolittle a place on everyone's list of the top half dozen worst congressmen. And in fact, there is a really terrific blog Dump Doolittle dedicated to just that. This is a team effort of local bloggers in CA-04 whose work will one day be the backbone of serious criminal charges against a congressman who makes Randy "Duke" Cunningham seem like a naughty prankster by comparison.
Today's Blue America candidate, Air Force Lt. Col. (Ret.) Charles Brown is as far from being a Doolittle type as one can be.
He's certainly not a career pol. But he certainly is a man of great personal and professional integrity, whose idea of "service" isn't wrapped up in "self" but in community and country.
Charlie is a folksy, plainspoken, common sense kind of guy, very positive and a complete "glass is half-full" sort of person. Although he officially switched parties in February of 2005, he told me that the last Republican he voted for was Gerald Ford. He saw the hard right turn the Republicans were making and voted for Clinton twice, once for Gore and in 2004 he was a member of Veterans For Kerry.
"I kept hoping the Republican Party would get back to standing for something... things I supported like a balanced budget, states' rights, smaller congressional budgets and less corporate cronyism... I wasn't happy when Rove and the faction that has taken over the Republican Party assassinated John McCain's character and then Max Cleland's and then Kerry's. These people seem to have sold their souls."
Yesterday I was so overjoyed when Phil Angelides endorsed California's Clean Money Proposition. Clean money and public financing of elections are a cornerstone of Charlie Brown's entire campaign.
"We should limit what congressmen can spend on slick media campaigns so they have to come back to the district and talk to the voters face to face... Voters can accept having a congressman with whom they sometimes disagree if he or she comes back home and explains it to them."
Like many Democratic challengers, Charlie faces a vicious practitioner of hot button politics.
"Wedge issues split us apart," explains Charlie. "Benjamin Franklin had it right when he said that either we all hang together or we'd all hang separately. Everyone agrees we need affordable healthcare. Why aren't we at least talking about providing healthcare for everybody? Why aren't we having a real dialogue on clean air? Same thing for a good educational system and a viable national security. But we can't even talk about the major issues when there's a small group who wants to divide us by talking about flag burning and gay marriage... all these things government ought to stay out of... I don't want the government in my bedroom and I don't want the government in my gun cabinet."
Charlie was a career military officer -- so expect the Republicans to swiftboat him and disparage his service like they do with all American fighting men and women who challenge them. Charlie was flying rescue helicopters in hostile fire while in Vietnam while Doolittle was seeking 3 consecutive deferments.
"He talks the 'support the troops' line, but he always votes against benefits for veterans and troops when it comes to spending dollars on medical care, education and equipment for active duty servicemen... He votes no on a bill that would have given $430 million to the V.A. for hospitals but turns around and votes to approve $700 million for a train track to benefit casinos in Mississippi."
Sounds good, right? But can he win?
Well, just like Eric Massa, Charlie won't take any Big Business PAC money. His donations have come primarily from $10 and $20 contributions from people concerned about good government.
"People," he told me, "want some hope, hope that someone in government will be there to listen to them and try to help them with their problems and looking out for them when it comes to health care and Social Security."
And where the Democrat in 2004 spent a total of $3,000 on the race, in this quarter Charlie has already raised over a quarter million dollars. If he can get his message out to the folks in Mother Lode country north of Sacramento, he's going to walk away with this race.
If you think investing a contribution in this good man and in our nation is worthwhile, please give what you can to Charlie's campaign at the Blue America ACT BLUE Page. This week SONY Records has donated 25 Johnny Cash 2 CD sets of his most beloved songs. The first 25 people who contribute to Charlie's campaign get the CDs. (If you don't want a CD, just add a .01 to your donation.)

As always, Howie, fantastic post and great job introducing Charlie to FDL. Welcome Charlie — we’re awfully glad to have you here today, and appreciate you taking a little time off the campaign trail to talk with us.
Gang, since Charlie was nice enough to come here to chat, I’ll ask that we keep comments in this thread on topic. If you have issues outside of Charlie’s race that you would like to discuss, please do so on the prior thread. Thanks!
Howie! Christy! Rootz!
Thanks, Christy. I just spoke with Charlie on the phone and he’ll be joining us in a few minutes. Right now he’s listening to a song that was written and recorded right out of a Blue America session. The song doesn’t get officially released til Monday but… what the hell: give it a listen.
OK I am set to donate to Charlie, also, who did I miss last Saturday, Howie? (Work had me on the road again.)
Thanks Howie, great summary of how corrupt Doolittle is.
I have met Charlie Brown and I am impressed with what he stands for. I also read Dump Doolittleto stay informed on this creep’s corrupt.
ifthethunderdontgetya, last week we had a great session with Eric Massa, another Fighting Dem, this one from NY.
Charlie,
1. Can you tell us about your district, urban, rurual, etc?
2. What are the top three issues you are hearing from voters in our district?
3. When you are in congress, what are the top three issues that you want to focus on?
Hi Charlie. Has Doolittle agreed to a date for the debate yet? Also, CA-04 is such a strangely drawn district and covers a huge geographic area. What qualities/issues have you found are important throughout our big district?
And thank you SO MUCH for putting yourself on the line in this important race.
Katymine, you sure know how to get right to the point. Charlie will be with us in a few minutes.
Good morning Charlie Brown!
Thanks for joining us this morning.
*{reaching for credit card again on a Saturday}*
Hi Howie!
katymine beat me to it in the questions department — silly bear playing with all the new buttons, missed his chance to ask the questions….
Hi Charlie! Great to have you here, and let me echo LindaR’s thanks for you stepping up to serve your country (again!) in this way. It’s a privilege for me to support your campaign.
A little financial update: our ACT BLUE Page went over the $140,000 mark this week and we should hit $60,000 for Ned by Tuesday.
About the district it includes Lake Tahoe, a large portion of what is called the Mother Lode - where gold was discovered in 1849; the Gold Rush. It includes the Sierra Nevada Mtns east of Sacramento up to the Oregon border. The district has some of the fastest growing and developing cities in the US. Doolittle gets lots of developer $$$$$.
Howie, your work with Blue America is fabulous. I believe you are creating an institutional force — for good!
Do Doolittle’s constituents know what a corrupt bastard he is and put up with it because “at least he’s not a *Democrat*”, or are they just completely oblivious?
Hi:
This is Charlie. So glad to be with you all this morning (it’s still morning here in CA).
We’re here at our campaign office. Got about 40 volunteers out front, scrambling for chairs to get them all trained.
Let’s chat.
-Charlie
Ca4 IndepforBrown (#14), welcome. Do you know if Doolittle has been involved in any suspicious land deals like some of the other California Republicans and Hastert?
BTW — love the tune, and the name of the band, too, ha.
I’m in.
Maybe this is the first donation today from Russia? :)
Keep em coming.
Welcome Charlie. Thanks for joining us. Katymine asked some good questions up at #7
Howie Klein @ 18
Most recent is his blocking the Homewood Ski Resort in Lake Tahoe which the US Forest Service was going to buy.
He blocked it so it could be sold to a developer.
Howie, I’ll email it to you, what we know.
What’s the makeup of the CA-04 voters who *aren’t* developers?
Charlie:
Do the people of your district know about the extent of Doolittle’s corruption, and do they care? Or more specifically how can you make them care?
Just to set a baseline, Charles Brown’s line on the ActBlue page showed 6 Blue America donors for a Blue America total of $340 before I pitched in my pennies.
Earlier question about the district: runs from Sacramento east to Lake Tahoe, North to the Oregon border–northeast portion of California.
Has all of the California side of Lake Tahoe–main population centers are Roseville/Rocklin/Lincoln.
All told–17,000 square miles, so you could say I’m very well traveled of late.
Just to set a baseline, Charles Brown’s line on the ActBlue page showed 6 Blue America donors for a Blue America total of $340 before I pitched in my pennies.
I think one of them was me…
Another little financial update: we just went over $1,000 for Charlie– the fastest we’ve ever hit $1,000 since Blue America started. I guess a lot of people either hate Doolittle or love Johnny Cash (or both). And wait ’til you get to know Charlie!!

Charlie, to echo katymine at 7 and Twisted Martini at 25, when you talk to voters in your district, what do they tell you about their primary concerns - and is Doolittle one of those concerns?
Twisted Martini @ 25
Yes, it’s definitely getting out there. SacBee had another major article today, and other newspapers are running stories.
Doolittle of course calling it a “liberal smear campaign.”
People of all party stripes fed up and joining us.
This campaign is about unity, getting back to “We the People,” and simple right vs. wrong.
That’s why Doolittle is so worried.
Charlie, if there actually is a debate with Doolittle, will it be carried on C-SPAN?
Fox News is reporting that Lamont is some wealthy playboy with girls all around him.
Mr. Brown, thank you for your service to our country, and for volunteering again to serve. My question is about what you hear from voters in CA-04: do people want to support you or do they want to get rid of Doolittle?
In other words, are you tapping into a protest vote, or are you getting a positive message out to your future constituents?
Again, sir, thank you for all you do. This can happen.
Charlie, I have to say that your come backs to Doolittle’s attempts to slime you with GOP speak (example ACLU Member)and the attempt to assault you about the DCCC ad with the flag covered coffins - well your responses were absolutely right on! Well Done
The Nefarious Leslie @ 31
Great question.
Top issues include immigration, war in Iraq, and lobbying reform.
Then there’s the Auburn Dam, which is strictly a local issue that has been around since 1967, still hasn’t been built, and won’t be. Nevertheless, Doolittle keeps trying, holding up flood protection for all of Sacramento.
Howie Klein @ 29
All right! Thanks again, Howie, for making this possible every week.
Good Morning Charlie Brown!
Our district here in CA-04 is in the odd circumstance that we have very little media outlets to get word across how corrupt Doolittle is and what a great replacement you would be.
The republicans in our district seem hell bent on voting against their best interests mostly because they have no clue what Doolittle has done. Do you have any planned TV ad’s this year to inform more “conservative” republicans that voting for Doolittle is a vote against their best interests?
Hello Mr. Brown. Thanks for taking the time to chat. I have a “big picture” question. Do you have any thoughts on how we progressives can not only defeat particular Republican politicians here and there, but go on to take down the conservative movement itself? Conservatives control the Federal Government and the media. How do we battle them in the long run?
Thanks for any input.
Hi Charlie,
Welcome. Interesting article on Doolittle, my hat is off to you as one old rotorhead to another for taking him on.
Do you have an view on the current republican wedge issue of immigration?
Thanks
JF
I was excited to read former GOP Congressman Pete McCloskey’s opinion piece in the Sacramento Bee yesterday, which I’ll link here:
http://www.sacbee.com/content/.....7042c.html
… and then ask you, Mr. Brown, whether you think this will help hard-core GOP voters vote for you, a Democrat, just this once?
We invited him to 6 debates, but he says he’s too busy even though Congress is in recess for a month.
We’ll keep after him, but we know that media is very interested in carrying these debates because they keep asking when they will be, and keep offering to host.
Will the local media bite on any “empty chair” debates?
People both want to support me, and get rid of Doolittle. His negatives are very strong among Dems and DTS. Republicans are increasingly embarassed by him.
We’re talking about uniting to solve the problems of the country.
Charlie Brown @ 45
Charlie, how would you describe your politics? How much common ground do you have with district Republicans?
EthicsIn Congress @ 39
The newspapers in Doolittle’s district recommended a “NO” vote on Doolittle in the primary. It surprised me, but they know.
Doolittle has a tightly run political machine in this district and that is why he is called Boss Doolittle.
Welcome, Charlie, and welcome to any of your supporters who are here because of the email you sent out. (I got it because I had already contributed to you, but I just added some more at ActBlue.) Every campaign should have its own Kiss Float. If you had to pick just one image of Doolittle, what would it be? Do you have a photo of him kissing Tom DeLay? Unfortunately, I don’t think you can count on a photo of Doolittle being arraigned before the election, although a girl can dream.
Ca4 Indepfor Brown (#48)– oh, Doolittle has the same first name as Emanuel! Who knew!
Have the endorsements you’ve garnered from other veterans, patriots who are also Democrats, made an impact on the voters there? I’m probably omitting some, but I recall that Wes Clark and Max Cleland have endorsed and, if I recall correctly, campaigned for you.
Do voters know about these endorsements and see their way to a Brown vote because of them?
Eli @ 46
I’m an ex-Republican. The Republican party left me. I realized in 2004 that I couldn’t even go into Republican events anymore because my t-shirts and bumper stickers. Supporting Democratic Candidates means you should become a Democrat, and I am proud to be one.
Pete McCloskey will be out here campaigning for me in the next week, there’s a lot of common ground issues we all agree on.
BarbaraB, the mug shot of Doolittle would make a great t-shirt
Love to see a photo of Doolittle with Abramoff in the CNMI.
I think the DCCC should help Charlie and do a Ralph Reed treatment to Doolittle.
There was a great photo of Doolittle and Kevin Ring with their wives at a movie opening - it was Planet of the Apes.
Pete McCloskey remains a hero to me because of his opposition to another, earlier GOP regime: tough work then, tough work now! I wouldn’t need an inducement to support your candidacy, Mr. Brown, but Pete’s endorsement carries a tremendous amount of weight with me and, I hope, others!
Thanks for chatting today, sir.
BarbaraB @ 49
Can I get an amen! ha.
I could do a custom shot of Doolittle if you guys want.
Hello Charlie. First of all, let me thank you from the bottom of my heart for taking on the challenge to defeat Doolittle. Really!
Where is your office located?
Howie, thanks to you as well for being our conduit to progress. I love the song and the performers and can’t wait to spread the word.
The SF Chronicle reported on Thursday that Diane Feinstein is the state’s most popular and respected politician, according to a new (non-partisan) Field poll.
I would hope that she has been helpful to you, Charlie, in your candidacy - Doolittle has got to go. If she hasn’t been as helpful as she could be, perhaps others of us from CA could “encourage” her with a little message of concern.
Jo Fish @ 41
My art seems to start a lot of controversy lately.
WOW, rounding $1,700 and rising!

================================
Had Enough, California Congressional District Four?
================================
maybe Doolittle just expects you to hire his wife to arrange the debate events?
Charlie: Since your district is so spread out, I would imagine that you are using alot of direct mail to communicate with your voters. Ned’s FFN program is a very progressive way to take direct mail and make it personal, driving up response and participation rates. Same with YouTube Vlogs.
Have you looked into some of these approaches?
Howie, read the Boss Doolittle article, there is a link to it on the Dump Doolittle blog the link is on the list of links on the right side. It will give anyone interested an idea of what the district is about and what Charlie is dealing with.
Doolittle’s main campaign sign is: “We Stand with Congressman Doolittle.”
The picture to go with his signs are DeLay, Cunningham, and Abramoff’s mug shots–waiting for one more?
JoFish@ 42-it’s a great day when a Squid can support a Zoomie!
Peterr @ 59
So many messages to reach Senator Feinstein with — one hopes she’d just stay out of Arnold’s photo-op-helicopter this year, for starters!
Adam from DownWithTyranny @ 57
In an orange jumpsuit, maybe? Or, as Howie suggests, a “mug shot” with nice little numbers across the bottom? It would be a sort of preview of coming attractions. Heh.
Charlie, tell the folks here how you knew there was no WMD in Iraq.
Peterr @ 59
I would encourage everyone to contact their representatives to tell them to support this campaign>
Everyone lives in John Doolittle’s district.
Charlie, how are you focusing your reachout efforts? Are you using a lot of direct mail, as Twisted Martini suggests at 64? And other than donating, how can those of us who are in the area best support your campaign?
Obviously, you need boots on the ground for door-to-door, phone banking, etc. - but does the campaign have any special unmet needs that the FDL community might be able to help out with?
Charlie,
First off, your district is beautiful country. Secondly, do you think the conservatives in your district are becoming dissolutioned with the Ripofflicanns that sing the same old song but always end up serving coporations. That can’t be good for your folks.
P.S. Thanks to ActBlue and FDL for making it easy and safe to make a small contribution today. Go get em Charlie!
BarbaraB @ 69
How about w/o the orange jumpsuits, but instead have money coming out of pockets, lapels, etc… It is the money and Doolittle is stuck on money, he loves the stuff. He’d sell America for a profit to himself.
An Orange jumpsuit isn’t a bad idea, for the record, every prison art we have done (per Howie’s request) has come to pass. Every prison shot of a right wing repug we did was done before they were charged with anything.
I will do an art of him per all of your requests. Tell me what you would like, these ideas are great.
Kinda like Babe Ruth calling his shot…
Ca4 Indepfor Brown @ 70
Mid 1990’s I served two rotations in Saudi Arabia coordinating Airborne Reconnaissance flights over Iraq’s “No Fly” Zones. Sat in on the General’s briefings every day, and we would talk about what would be bombed if we went to war the next day…and no one was worried about WMD, because the military intelligence community knew that those programs had been dismantled.
Too bad the politicians didn’t listen to the military. That’s a big reason why we need more military vets in Congress. People who have been in war, hate war. Sometimes it’s necessary, but the war in Iraq was not.
I have also talked face to face with Scott Ritter about the flights I scheduled in support of his mission as a UN Weapons Inspector. We are in total agreement, from 2 ends of the spectrum, that sanctions and inspections were working.
Just ran to the pc :(
Have you talked about the training being given today and tomorrow?
*ilson46201 @ 63
My wife and I both quit our jobs to campaign full time. It’s that important to us.
She and I are both in agreement…we promise never to be paid lobbyists.
Is this part of your campaign, or is it kind of off-point? Is there anything you could do from a House seat to advance this uncomfortable (for the Republicans) truth?
Charlie, your son Jeff is an Air Force pilot, correct? Is he still stationed in Iraq, and how is he doing?
Charlie’s son just finished his 3rd rotation in Iraq. His son flew Doolittle and Katherine Harris out of Iraq last winter. Doolittle was rude to the pilots and did not know it was Charlie’s son.
john at 79, no, not yet - why don’t you fill us in?
I’ve lived in this district (not anymore). It is filled with knuckledragging tweakers and “I got mine, screw you” republicans. No matter how bad Doolittle is, a Democrat will never, ever have a chance of winning in that region. I’d like to be wrong, but I don’t think I am.
Just checking google for headlines, this is from the Mercury News:
California congressman helped Abramoff win contract
That would be Congressman Doolittle, bribed much.
For those of us who don’t “know your district,” sir: Is voters’ immigration concern hypothetical or is there a real impact that voters see in their daily lives? In other words, what’s driving the immigration issue for voters in CD-04?
Thanks.
Hi Charlie,
This is John from SFD ,you’ve seen me at the meetings.
BTW I love those editorials you gave to the Oroville paper and the Grass Valley paper
Eli @ 81
It’s all about the constitution. I took an oath to support and defend it. Congress is supposed to be an equal branch of government that meets its oversight responsbilities. It’s time for real hearings, real accountability, and finding out what’s been going on the past 5 years–so we can avoid repeating these mistakes in our future policies.
Hiya Charlie,
Any chance the Gold Country Media newspapers (Auburn Journal, Roseville Press Tribune, and 7 or 8 more local newspapers) will endorse you for Congress? Seems that would go a long way to getting word to our local citizens that Doolittle is NOT a “conservative” so stop sending him to washington.
Thanks, Ca4 at 83.
Charlie Brown @ 80
This is a fabulous promise and should be made known far and wide. I wonder how many other politicians would be willing to sign on to this pledge?
Here are those editorials Charlie wrote
http://www.orovillemr.com/search/ci_4126710
http://www.theunion.com/articl...../107220184
Doolittle’s main campaign sign is: “We Stand with Congressman Doolittle.”
The picture to go with his signs are DeLay, Cunningham, and Abramoff’s mug shots–waiting for one more?
==== I will do an art of Charlie’s suggestion
“Constitution” and “accountability” are two of my favorite words.
Rushton @ 85
Rushton, I do live in the district. I’d like you to be wrong, too. And I think you are. The tweakers will make it a squeaker, but Charlie Brown can win the day.
Adam from DownWithTyranny @
76
Here is an idea:
picture of Abramoff, Ralph Reed, DeLay, and Doolittle in the center. Have money bulging out of their pockets. Under them are images of sweatshops, casino, words “Forced Abortions”, “Children in Sex Trade”, “sweatshops”,
Another:
Doolittle and Abramoff with money coming out of pockets, with the words “Made in the USA” forced abortions, minors forced in the sex trade, and then “It’s closer than you think, it is in your closet.”
Rushton @ 85
I think you will be very surprised come November. It’s important to note that on June 6th–60% of voters cast ballots for someone other than Doolittle–and he spent over $1 million.
I want to invite you to come back to see for yourself–plus, we’re always looking for a few more good volunteers!
Keep the faith!
-Charlie
Hope I’m not stepping on any toes, but if you’re in the area …
You can help Charlie take our country back
I’ll be there tomorrow
My son has had three rotations in Iraq, in Feb, Doolittle went over to visit the troops, check on what they needed, and get some good pr since it was the middle of the lobbying scandal.
Congressional delgation which included Doolittle, Harris and Shay got helicoptered from the green zone out to Baghadad airport, streets are ok for our troops but not congressmen/women.
Harris and Shay climbed on the C130 asking if anyone was from Florida or Connecticut, what did they need, etc. Doolittle just asked if he could sit in the cockpit — C130 is a cargo plane, not real comfortable, but there is a spare seat in the cockpit that is better than being in the back.
Crew couldn’t really say no, Doolittle came up, sat down, said hi to the aircraft commander, ignored the copilot, navigator, flight engineer, load master,– an hour later the plane landed at Talafar. As Doolittle got off the plane, the aicraft commnander gave Doolittle a message from the copilot “Congressman Doolittle, Charlie Brown and his son hope you had a nice flight”
Doolittle sat about 18 inches from my son for over an hour. Didn’t ask him his name, where he was from, what rotation he was on (his third tour in Iraq), what he needed - totally ignored him - guess a copilot isn’t important enough to talk to.
The whole crew knew who Doolittle was, that I was running against him. Jeff’s crew has contributed to the campaign. They couldn’t belief how Doolittle ignored them all —
Charlie,
When can we obtain new yards signs for the November Election? (mine was stolen 2 days after I put it up in May)
This is the most cheerful factoid for me:
Lovely hard facts like that show why it’s important to engage in the fight, that action can have a good consequence. In other words, this is not a quixotic quest, and the dragon can be slain.
I like your suggestion too, I think I will do that one.
Marc in Placerville @ 90
Hi Marc: The Auburn Journal (as well as the SacBee) endorsed me for the Primary, and i feel very good about prospects this fall–as well as with the GV Union and other papers in the District. That’s because we’re on the right side of issues that matter most, and we’re not shy about saying what we think. John Doolittle seems afraid of the press these days.
And, BTW, Corruption is NOT a conservative value!
