There were not, as stated in the previous post, 11 people who attended the three Lieberman events today. I am now told there were a total of 7, and all of them turned up to one event -- the other two were empty.
Meanwhile Ned attended the Glastonbury Irish Festival tonight and was treated like a rock star when he walked through the crowd. Black 47 is playing later and I'm a bit bummed I will miss them, but Matt Stoller is arriving in a bit to stay for the duration and I'm doing Late Nite. But one night in won't kill me -- the energy surrounding the campaign is electric, we get together all the time and you never know who's going to show up. Tomorrow night we'll be at The Temptations on the Green and afterwards enjoying the fine food and drink to be had in the City of New Haven while Pach holds down the Late Nite fort here.
If the rain cooperates the Kiss Float I am told is a big fan of the Temptations and will be showing up at the Green. Today the Kiss Float met the Joe Lieberman No Tomorrows Bus. Talk about over-estimating your needs.
Stoller just pulled up, gotta go introduce him to the dogs...

Hiya Jane!
Turd!
Vict0rLaszl0?
Dammit! I want to see Black47.
Seven is a lucky number. Things might be turning Lieberman’s way.
Today seven, tomorrow snake eyes.
Today seven, tomorrow snake eyes.
Joe boxcars.
Now, THAT’s what I call a ‘photo-op’!
Somebody back a ways wanted the virtual ‘Jane ‘n tonic.’
correction: Jane IS tonic.
You go, grrrl.
I don’t know what to make of the fact that people aren’t showing up for Lieberman’s events. It’s kinda eerie-I recall when Kerry ran for President in ‘04, crowds of 200,000+ would be enthusiastically cheering for him, while Bush could only manage to assemble a handful of carefully screened loyalists. But somehow Bush ended up with more votes. Hmmmm…..
I’m getting the distinct impression recently that you’re not supporting Joe Lieberman. Call me silly…
Eighter from Decatur…
I hear that Lieberman hasn’t scheduled any grip and grin events at Traitor Joe’s.
-GSD
cosmo, maybe all that rallying leaves them too tired to vote.
I don’t think Short Ride announces his appearances, or something brilliant like that. If he did, he might be the only one there. Yeah, I’m pretty sure those that show up are there by mistake.
This Tice subpoena is going to explode.
meta 15 — well weirdly if Short Ride isn’t announcing his appearances it’s due to his Float-a-phobia.
Didn’t work out so well, did it?
Mickey #11:
You’re silly.
:-P
I’d like to know how many people actually ride in that big stinky bus. Couldn’t he downsize to something more fuel efficient and still accomodate his entourage? Say, a Mini?
Bush is a damn jinx, a Jonah. His appearance on the scene of American politics has produced one disaster after another. Death follows this man like stink follows a skunk.
More debunking of Bush propaganda. More innocents slain.
*Democracies don’t produce terrorists.
*We are fighting them over there so we don’t have to fight them over here.

Freud calls it “free floating anxiety.”
Just saw the McLaughlin group and they all, Mac, Clift, Zuckerman and the Blank felt that Lieberman would handily beat Lamont and Buchanan felt yes, but perhaps no. They deserve to be proved wrong and for some of them at least, to question their vision, knowledge, and instincts, as well as their sources.
I’m imagining Lieberman’s stupid face, eyeballing his “homage in tow” following him and his “tomorrow bus” everywhere he goes. If only he could get somebody arrested. Those waskally wabbits!
RGJoe sez, “Think about tomorrow - don’t think about all the bad stuff I did yesterday - Tomorrow I’ll be good, I promise”.
bwahahahahaha, Dru!
man, to be in the nsa so I could listen in on joe as he watches the kiss float parrallel his bus
I’m busting a gut over the Kiss following RGJoe’s bus. Genius.
This is so bad I’m actually worried that Joe might O.D. on heroin on the tour bus or something…
Love Black 47.
And Ned, we love ya, a cushla!
The float was once again on the local ABC news; DeanFan84 was shown talking about how “Joe must go!” while the float was just behind him.
Then they showed “The Hug” button, which came across as a pathetic attempt to replace The Kiss in people’s minds. It’s starting to look sad. (not that it’ll cause me to stop being a pest or anything!)
This is so bad I’m actually worried that Joe might O.D. on heroin on the tour bus or something…

An addition to #22:
McLaughlan stated that repugs and “independents” were registering dem in order to defeat Lamont.

GSD, it’s all because he doesn’t believe in managed calm.
Courant says (last three graphs after supportive Lieberquotes):
http://www.courant.com/news/po.....s-breaking
….”Despite the mostly positive reception Friday, Lieberman couldn’t escape his critics entirely. A blogger drove to the several of the stops in a pickup truck with two papier-m Fach De heads meant to represent Lieberman and Bush kissing and a sign reading “Just politically married. Joe and George.”
Meanwhile, Lamont was in Hartford with Michael Schiavo, who fought to have a feeding tube removed from his severely brain-damaged wife. Lamont has criticized Lieberman for supporting a bill that allowed a federal court to consider reinserting the feeding tube used by Terri Schiavo, a 39-year-old Florida woman who had been in a vegetative state since 1990.
While her parents fought to keep her alive, Michael Schiavo said his wife would rather die. He eventually won in court last year.”
GSD, it’s all because he doesn’t believe in managed calm.
What appears to be chaos and violence is really just very valuable catharsis, and everyone over there will feel a whole lot better once they’ve worked it out of their system.
Bobby@31: McLaughlan stated that repugs and “independents” were registering dem in order to defeat Lamont.
Other commenters have said it’s too late for that under CT law. I think it’s 90 days or something they have to declare their party before the primary.

You must remember this,
A kiss remains a kiss,
A hug is just a shrug,
So Lieberman begins to bug,
deep in the hole he dug,
Whatever. Bush and the Lieb, it was a beautiful friendhsip for awhile.
BTW, where can I read about the history of the Kiss Float, what geniuses thought it up, who is the great artist responsible for its excecution, etc. etc.?
I think we should encourage everyone to stop with the phoniness and the “managed calm” of civility.
Rwandans’ were just getting things out in the open.
Serbia was just finally expressing their true feelings.
Cambodia and Pol Pot were letting the “real” them shine through.
Of course the Germans and Japanese were great at ending the silliness of “managed calm” and using the honest aspects of “total war” and the “final solution” to get their feelings out.
The madness of King George indeed. That people don’t laugh in his face is a crime.
-GSD
Riesz, no - only what was first released. I just think this guy is really dying to talk. And BushCo is dying to shut him up. Full Court Press. This is the gist of it from Raw:
Russell Tice, an important source for the Pulitzer Prize-winning New York Times report by James Risen and Eric Lichtblau on the NSA’s warrentless eavesdropping activities, was served papers by two FBI agents outside his home on Wednesday, July 26th. Tice must appear in court on August 2nd “to testify and answer questions concerning possible violations of federal criminal law.”
In a statement issued by the National Security Whistleblowers Coalition, of which Tice is a member, he declared “This latest action by the government is designed only for one purpose: to ensure that people who witness criminal action being committed by the government are intimidated into remaining silent.”
The NSWBC also accused the government of trying to use this subpoena to prevent Tice from being able to publicly confirm the existence of the controversial NSA program. The lack of reliable public information on the NSA wiretapping effort has been used to bolster the “state secrets” defense in a number of cases filed against the government by civil liberties organizations and other groups.
I think we should encourage everyone to stop with the phoniness and the “managed calm” of civility.
If you try to repress this stuff it just gives you Ulsters.
The pic on this thread is priceless.
Indy’s registering Dem are just as likely to be for Ned as against. How many Indy’s are warmongers?
JWR - from below thead - the “little news” about the Indian companies and Iranian transaction - why would anyone worry?
meta/*ilson - Breaking news. Indictments around the corner for the criminal, unconsitutional warrantless wiretaps program. Oh wait - uh,I guess that’s indictments for the whistleblowers.

So, if you believe in managed calm, are you siding with the terrorists? If managed calm returns, does that mean the terrorists win?
Is it not a sign of the brilliance of BushCo foreign policy that one of the exemplar nations for the new Bush Middle East is falling into the nastiest kind of sectarian civil war imaginable? That the other is being pounded into a pulp by one of our allies?
“Managed calm” keeps making me think of some kind of HMO…

wesgpc - I am glad you put up the TPM link. I looked at that clip earlier this evening and the man is nuts. YAY! Mary’s in the house!
Mary, do you happen to recall whether Tice ever actually got to testify before Congress. I think he got stood up.
Hey Jane,
I just wanted to thank you for the patriotism you are showing toward this campaign. I am glad you are out there representing real Americans who understand what government SHOULD be.

hee! I like funny things.
Great! I’ll post my picture.
Some one should ask Lieberman if managed calm means that the terrorist have won, or does he not stand by his War Leader in A Time of War?
Or someone should ask how sitting on the sidelines demanding more violence and aggression from Israel while Israel’s police action against Hezbollah comes up short helps Israel? Or how the US brilliantly draws out the horror of Likud/Kadima violence on Lebanon civilians? That is a brilliant move to release suppressed resentments, dontcha think?
Or, how this will help the Ceder Revolution in Lebanon and make them love the US and Isreal for freeing them from suppressed resentments?
Or, does Joe disagree and not stand by our War Leader, in A Time of War!? I want to know how Lieberman stands on this. I want to be reassured that if people vote for him, they are voting for a responsible adult leadership, rather than frightening irresponsible violence from extremists.
Is Joe taking any questions these days?
OK - I’ll laugh!
OK - I’ll laugh!
Okay, how’s this?
“Is he DLC or something?”
There is going to be a big push to sideline the ‘progressives’ and bloggers in order to clear the way for hilliary and consolidate party power in the DLC ‘wing.’ The Hug was just the beginning. The objective is to turn us into neutered barnyard animals who will reflexively vote straight dem as they ignore and run away from us.
If Ned wins, they are going to have to re-think that strategy. If Holy joe wins, it’s going to get ugly.
Josh seems to be putting down bets on the DLC side and he gives those folks a lot of play. But that’s just a guess.
all I could see was the shirt!
Mary #56: thanks, I wonder sometimes whether people have seen everything or not. I hope the lawyers here can explain the BushCo police action against Tice. Whay? Will it shut him up effectively? Does it have a chance to work in court? And what the whole dang this is about. Tice says he is reporting illegal activity. Is where there pedel hits the metal the rubber rips the road on whether Preznit’s whim on what’s legal in A Time of War is the law of the land?
meta - no, he never did testify.
They have also been taking statements from, and interviewing, members of Congress. It’s full court intimidation press time. We really are close, IMO, to seeing our DOJ try for indictmentss against whistleblowers and journalists. I’m guessing we won’t be so lucky as to have the GJ take a different track and indict Hayden and Gonzales.
It’s all painful to watch.
all I could see was the shirt!
Okay, almost no shirt to speak of…
thank you Mary - it is more of the information that makes me want to ask where those levers are that we need to throw our bodies on.
It’s not as funny as the Kaiser joke . . .
I hope this is not a double post: I will be watching for question time with Joe Lieberman.
Some one should ask Lieberman if managed calm means that the terrorist have won, or does he not stand by his War Leader in A Time of War?

We really are close, IMO, to seeing our DOJ try for indictmentss against whistleblowers and journalists.
The right-wing blogosphere and (I think) punditsphere are certainly trying to pave the way for it in the public consciousness.
In re the previous post…was Holy Joe actually at “Bar” in New Haven. The image is just too precious for words. That place is so dead when Yale is not in session. What a dork!
Question: Are independents allowed to change registration this late before a primary? Actually I thought I did read they could which tells me that they might just be doing this.
this contest is still Joe’s to lose because of citizens not really being tuned in. At least here in blue Minnesota it is amazing how little people actually know. They get the soundbites: as in dems and republicans are all criminals — Rove has won that round. People still believe dems misdeeds are equal to the republicans. Ugh.
Did Simon Marshall dream up the DLC’s view of voters?
Simon Marshall: Now you’ll like these. You’ll really “dig” them. They’re “fab,” and all the other pimply hyperboles…
George: I wouldn’t be seen dead in them. They’re dead grotty.
Simon Marshall : Grotty?
George: Yeah, grotesque.
Simon Marshall: Make a note of that word and give it to Susan. It’s quite touching, really. Here’s this kid, giving me his utterly valueless opinion, when I now for a fact that within a month he’ll be suffering from a violent inferiority complex and loss of status because he isn’t wearing one of these nasty things! Of course they’re grotty you wretched nit, that’s why they were designed! But that’s what you’ll want.
George: No, I won’t.
Simon Marshall: You can be replaced, chickie baby.
George: I don’t care.
From some movie or other.
It’s not as funny as the Kaiser joke . . .
Thank you, you’re very kind. Actually, what was funny for me was that I was just trying to take a picture of my stubble, for reasons which are no longer clear to me…

But the signature-gathering has been done relatively quietly, perhaps because Lieberman’s decision not to back Lamont if his challenger wins the primary is a controversial one.
Many prominent Democrats who have endorsed Lieberman in the primary say they will back the winner.
Lieberman’s decision also is the topic of a critical blog on the Internet — “Connecticut for Lieberman — A Party of One.”
Asked repeatedly this week for information on the petition effort or for a contact who could provide details, Lieberman’s campaign spokeswoman, Marion Steinfels, said there is nothing to report.
“Every single person on our campaign, from the candidate down to every last intern, is working on making sure Joe Lieberman gets elected in the primary,” Steinfels said.
As of yesterday, it was unclear who was coordinating the petition drive. Earlier this month, Steinfels said it would be the Connecticut for Lieberman founders.
But some of them, including Bishop Theodore Brooks and John Courtmanche, both of New Haven, said they have not been involved. And one party founder referred questions about who is spearheading the effort back to the Lieberman campaign.
“They didn’t ask us,” Courtmanche said. “But I can’t believe it won’t be successful.”…
ccmask - did you have to put a picture of him smiling?
Evening Jane,
Took your advice and swung by to have dinner with CHS, Mr. Smith and Peanut. We have to call Christy “Svelte” now, she’s doing well. Mr. Smith had nice things to say about me so I’ll never question his judgement, and Peanut is a little doll. Great people.
For Mary @ 56, Blair thinking as he watches Bush, in his best English accent,
“Mad as a march hare.”
“Gone off his crumpet. That’s what he’s done.”
I think it needs help. Anyone care to fix it or add some writing on the bus?
I don’t know any answers about Tice. I do know that when the “terrorist surveillance program” aka “*the* program the President has acknowledged” came out, Tice was very clear that his information dealt with some other aspect. I don’t know timeline for his statements and the telecom stuff though, or if he has said anything vis a vis that program - so I don’t know if his info is tied to that or not.
DOJ is going gangbusters to terrify and intimidate whistleblowers and journalists right now. They have been conducting interviews of members of Congress who were briefed on the programs about the leaks. There are pretty clearly other things that we still don’t know about and they want to do everything they can to suppress information about more illegal activity — an interesting, and no longer novel, role for DOJ.
It does all revolve and devolve on the Presidential authorization to break the law trumping the actual law under DOJ’s marching orders. I don’t buy for an instant that you can classify or claim state’s secrets in illegal actvities. The fact that they have been getting the courts to go along so far - Arar, el-Masri, and Kennelly - just makes the headache worse.
I’d like to see how, though, they begin the waltz on this. One thing Gov has been doing over and over in their pending cases where they are alleging state secrets is citing cases that stand for the proposition that if Gov is going to claim state secrets, it can’t use that info in a criminal prosecution either.
We don’t really have any credible DOJ under Gonzales & Co. I know I go back to it too much, but I still can’t believe we are at the place now when judges at the Dist and Appellate court levels, even very conservative judges, openly challenge the crediblity and veracity of DOJ bc it has stooped so low so often.
So we are seeing wholesale public obliteration of any rights or protections whatsoever. Tice, Greenhouse, Rowley, Sibel Edmonds……
This is what is happening in Gaza while everyone is watching Lebanon:

Nah, they’re pretty much the same. Seven of nine, half a dozen of the other.
It still looks like a death-spiral to me. Joe didn’t seem to get much bounce from hugging Bill, and the hug-button fiasco was a rookie mistake. It all leaves the impression that Joe feels entitled to “his” seat and is annoyed that he’s having to campaign for it. Memo to Joe: That seat belongs to the people of Connecticut. You just get to sit in it for a while.

Jane, I’ve known for a long time that your penchant for hyperbole and exaggeration would trip you up, and when I glimpsed the headline on this post, I knew your “blogger hubris” had caught up with you. Why can’t you report the facts on the ground right the first time — don’t you realize this kind of inaccuracy will cost the entire New Journamalizm Movement credibility?
If you can’t report accurately the first time on the Lieberman campaign’s attendance numbers, we might need another blogger ethics panel.

Can he truthfully write a post that claims he is lying?
Another question for Lieberman: I read an article in Haaretz today that says the US expects Israel to go in kick Hezbollah out of Lebanon in order to fulfill the UN resolution. Unilaterally by force. The US will help by sending military gizoms. Please explain how this makes the US a great friend of Israel, and how it will strengthen both countries’ positions in the Middle East. Espcially since Israel is running into unexpected problems kicking out Hezbollah, and Israeli popular support is faltering?
Also explain in detail how this kind of attitude makes the War Leader a Great and Accomplished Leader, worth following out of disgusting and unssatisfactory manged calm and into explosive Birth-Pangs of the dawning of a New Era of Freedom? Where everything is done by kicking butt and opening cans of kick-ass. Explain how that is better than managing calm.
Or, do you not patriotically stand by our War Leader in A Time of War?

Unless things have changed (and I sincerely hope they will) the DLC has learned no new tricks. After their worriedwonkfest, their platform emphasized more educational loan subsideis and tax fixed for the working poor.
They called for a frank, open, no holds barred debate on foreign policy issues. But did not have the guts to conduct one themselves.
I sincerely hope they change.
