Both Carolyn Treiss, head of NARAL-CT and Susan Yolen, head of Planned Parenthood-CT were delegates at the convention yesterday, and both cast their votes for Ned Lamont. This in spite of incredible pressure from their national organizations to back Joe Lieberman. All I can say is, bravo to both women for standing up for choice and saying "no more" to Rape Gurney Joe and the DC cocktail weenie gluttons who would have had them do otherwise. That took some guts.
So let's recap. Ned Lamont has committed -- like a good Democrat -- to support the Democratic candidate, whoever that may be, for the Connecticut Senate race in November. Even if that candidate turns out to be his opponent, Joe Lieberman. It's the classy thing to do.
Lieberman, on the other hand, has accused Lamont of being a traitor hurting the party by running, and refuses to commit to even being a Democrat. It's the weak, weasely thing to do.
On Ned's site there is an open letter to Joe Lieberman, challenging him to act honorably in the race, and he needs us to sign it:
Dear Senator Lieberman,
I supported you as the Democratic Party's nominee for Vice President of the United States six years ago. However, I am deeply disturbed to find you openly contemplating an Independent run for U.S. Senate this year. As you well know, Democrats are on the cusp of reclaiming the congress for the first time in over a decade. Your threats seriously undermine the progress of the national party towards that goal, again.
Ned Lamont has already pledged to support your candidacy should you win this August. On the eve of the Connecticut Democratic Convention, I urge you to do the same.
I am sure that if the Incumbent Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee thought they could get away with it, they'd back an independent Lieberman run against a Democratic Lamont campaign. The odds are, after all, in the favor of the incumbent Lieberman, and to Chuck Schumer power means more than principles. He and all the other Democrats who would rather that the netroots community just shut up and bake them a pie need to know that if this happens there will be consequences.
I almost never ask people to sign petitions but I'm asking you to sign this one now, numbers are going to be meaningful as the various factions start to stake out their territory. Again, it's at open letter to Joe Lieberman
The rumor mill is running wild. If Holy Joe bolts the party he is probably going to do it soon. This is rapidly getting very, very interesting.

MMMMMMMMMMM, BEER!
If joey bails, that should be the last nail in his coffin, no? If you don’t play by his rules, he’s gonna take his ball and go play with someone else.
Fitz. Feingold. FDL.
Is this some sort of record? The man who ran for Vice President in 2000 now cannot confirm he’ll run for freaking Senator as a Democrat?
Joe…this goes on your permanent record, I hope you know that. Does not look good, vato.
KOBE!!
Joke Line has a column about how John Conyers and Charlie Rangel are “an embarrassment” to the Democratic Party, and Rove will use the chance of them becoming House committee chairmen to prevent Democratic victories in Congressional races. It’s no coincidence that the words “an embarrassment” and “Joe Klein” appear in the same column.
Oops, I forgot the link:
http://www.time.com/time/natio.....81,00.html
What if the netroots could in 2006 boot the dem vp candidate of 2000, and in 2008 make a winner (again) of the dem presidential candidate of 2000?
Margo,
Cracked me up. Out of nowhere, vato.
I’m thinking Pinche Cabrone.
John Conyers is a hero and Joke Line needs to STFU!! Conyers is working hard for the average American who is suffering under this false and frightening administration. What contribution is Klein making?? How does a comment like that contribute to the important national issue of crime and corruption in the WH, Congress and Washington overall over the last 5 years? I’m so tired of these pundits waving their little freak flags and I don’t even watch TV!!!
Bustedknuckles, I think ‘pinche cabrone’ a lot about this chingado president. Ese. ;)
It seems to me that there’s an incredible disconnect between the “establishment” Democrats-and by “establishment” I mean those who have a vested interest in maintaining their status quo and their power in the party-and the people. It also seems to me that there’s almost a battle going on between those same establishment Democrats and, well, everyone else. Even though the signs are clear that their power in and over the party is waning, they flatly refuse to acknowledge the times, they are a-changing.
Sometimes, too, it seems like they truly resent the blogosphere’s involvement in what was traditionally “their” process, even as they claimed they were working on behalf of the people. It’s now obvious they weren’t or they would welcome the activism that the blogging world brings to the table.
These thoughts don’t include ALL Democrats, though. Some have seen the future and have welcomed it with open arms and with few reservations.
Conyers and Rangel have demonstrated the ability to connect solidly with voters - repeatedly. Could Joe Klein even get elected dogcatcher?
Jane, did I read that Russ won’t be available for YearlyKOs? Do you know??
I wrote back to Larry Johnson to thank him for his answer about Jim M. and mentioned how much I would like to see Valerie join Joe at the conference so we could thank her for her service and her courage. It would be so nice to be able to do that as a group, wouldn’t it?
time for the goopers to make some hay:

Could Joe Klein even get elected dogcatcher?
Only if he promised to tie steaks around his neck while on the job.
If Lieberman leaves the Democratic Party then my only regret will be that he probably won’t take la Hil with him.
to Chuck Schumer power means more than principles.
And what guarantee would Schumer have that backing Indy Joe would assure that he, Lieberman, would caucus with the Dems, and therefore count toward Dem chairmanships? I mean, is Schumer that dumb? Oh wait.. better go sign that petition.
Also, I’m so glad that at least someone from PPF has seen the light. Maybe Ned’s endorsement by NOW will push them over the edge….
I feel so disappointed about them in particular.

1,156 DAYS AND THE KILLING GOES ON AND ON AND…
IMO the best thing that can happen, both in terms of the Conn Senate race and the national Democratic Party, is for Liebermann to declare as an independant or better still as a Republican. This would draw attention to the history of Lieberman as a creature of the early fascist movement (Buckly/National Review revenge against Lowell Weicker) and cast light on the crawly critters that scurry around in the DC shadows under the name of “Democrat”.
I think it would also force Schumer’s hand…Schumer can still weild enough power to cost the Democratic Party the Senate and maybe take New York into the Republican camp in ‘08, but if Old Joe bolts, Schumer’s future in a majority is pretty bleak.
KEEP THE FAITH AND THE RATS WILL LEAVE THE SHIP!!!
Joe doesn’t want to lose his Income-Bent $tatu$
If Lieberman loses the primary he will most definitely bolt the democratic party. As Lieberman made plainly obvious in 2000 when as Al Gore’s running mate he refused to fully commit to Gore by giving up his Senate seat, Lieberman is for Lieberman and that’s it.
.
I met Ned the first time at a small get together of L.A. Howard Dean supporters on the day he first announced, unofficially, that he was going to run. I spent a lot of time talking with him and with his wife and some of his friends who he grew up with. I’ve met every Democratic president since JFK bent over me, just a little boy, and asked me if I was ok after one of the horses a cop in his entourage was riding stepped on me. I have a tendency to not like phonies and uptight bullshit artists. As president of a major record label in a… fast industry, I’ve experienced many. I can smell ‘em a mile away. I knew immediately Ned was the real deal– a genuine and sincere man willing to be a public servant. He is a down to earth, easy-to-communicate-with, common sense man. And a self-made one at that. I have also met Hillary several times and, unfortunately, Lieberman once or twice too. Hillary and Lieberman are two of a kind. Ned isn’t one of them. He’s one of us.
Is that a picture of Georgie putting the ultrasecret Skull and Bones curse on Joe?
I love me some seismic shifts in the Democratic Party’s politics, they’re so…MOVING. Go Ned.
Well, this is interesting, little georgie waving the Mexican flag….
Jorje habla Espanol
(twolf, you are the Fitz! champ today - major props!)
This is ridiculous. Why bother with the charade of running as an Independent? Why not make the leap across the divide official and run as a Republican? It would at least be more honest than continuing the charade that he’s any kind of Democrat. And how pathetic is it to have to abandon your party affiliation because you can’t win any other way?
Going Repub would be cast as a victory for the GOP, until election day, when they, and he, would discover that even Republican voters don’t trust Joey any farther than they could throw him.
Go ahead, Joe - cut off your nose to spite your face. Maybe it would get rid of that annoying whine we hear every time you open your mouth.
If leiberman bolts to the repub’s, all that is going to do is piss them off at him too.You don’t seriously think THOSE greedy bastards are going to want to slice the pie to cut HIM in do you?
I desperately want Joe to abandon the Democratic ship like the dirty rat that he is– do it now and show his true repuke colors– it’ll be his first cleansing, honest moment. CT voters will flock to and vote for Lamont.
The war is ugly and wrong and they know it.
Jane, you enjoy being cruel to Lieberman, don’t you. Smiles.
Maybe if Joe leaves the Democratic Party, he can take Chuck, Hill, and DiFi with him. They can start the US2 party: when Republicans talk points, the US2 party sez, “Us, too!”
Big Ditto on that TeddySanFran @ 37!!
Hi, new guy here, been reading for months and love the place. Congratulations to Ned Lamont - I followed the live blogging last night and had more fun than I have with any political event in years.
One thing stood out to me in that open letter:
I think we can absolutely count on Lieberman to support Lieberman’s candidacy if he wins this August.
Way, Teddy.
Vicente Fox will be visitng Arnold very soon. Wonder what they’ll be cooking up?
I just love the added touch of the running mascara in Dark Black’s pic.WATB perfect.
Howie!!! Thanks so much for stopping by. Sorry not to have commented on your comment before.
I remember the FDL beginnings of the Lamont campaign via Jane’s links to you and your comments about Ned being the “real deal”. You were so absolutely correct. I got a real thrill out of watching the CT Dem conference via the internet last eve.
So, what’s important for Ned strategically (sp?) in the near future and what is the best way for us out-of-staters to help?
Thanks so much!
Signed. It’s disgusting that a petition like this is even necessary. Joe Lieberman, what a wanker.

zen #32: thanks for that informative link to GW’s history. I will use that info on some wavering wingnuts in my family. Exactly what is the mix of deluded true believer, and cynical but feckless tool in GW? Who knows? But this, as on most cultural conservative issues, I have no doubt that GW is cynical but feckless tool (CBFT). Going whichever way the wind blows to cage a few votes determines what CBFTs say on any given day. Finding just and fair ways to solve difficult problems isn’t even on the radar screen. GW was on the right side of the issue on immigration back when he was opposed to Wilson’s racist and immoral 187 campaign. But why? Cause he needed to cage a few Hispanic votes. Now GW is trying to triangulate the untriangulatable with the new immigration campaign. So, I support Bush in that he is opposing the criminalization of undocumented workers, but I don’t for a moment impute any good motives for that. Only reason to give Bush partial support on the good parts of his immigration stance is to box the guy in and make it harder for him to backtrack if the wind blows another way before election day, and thereby prevent disastrous bill from getting through Congress.
oh, p.s. Howie I remember your initial LA Story. I also remember the pic of Ned in front of the fireplace. It seems to have been engraved in memory. I don’t know if that’s one you posted, or if it was sent to Jane to post. Anyway, having grown up in LA, I could see that the fireplace was kinda homey- no pretense. Sorry for the OT thoughts.
Hi Sam! Welcome!
This is all great, but if Lieberman wins the Demo nomination, we will have to support him.

Hi, Sam. Welcome! Zennurse @ 16, YearlyKos is the same weekend as the Wisconsin convention. Kinda hard to be both places. But a little bird (well, a big bird named Markos) told me at the CtG event here that most of the other Dem presidential candidates will be there. So far, I think only Mark Warner and Wes Clark have said for sure they are coming (which I take to mean that Clark is a candidate.) I’d like to think they are all suddenly aware of the incredible power of the blogosphere, but the Young Dems are meeting across the street at the same time. Still, even if we’re the other half of a two-fer, it’s pretty neat.
We needed a Sam round here– I love that name…

meandering back to the diversion of the previous thread, I need to recommend the movie “Repo Man” to any of you who find much American food, beer, and entertainment bland, as it does an excellent job exploring these phenomena.
I went to an excellent event tonight, where Jesse Jackson Jr. spoke to support Jaimin Raskin, our local candidate for the Maryland State Senate. Raskin is trying to unseat an older, less active Democratic encumbent here in one of the most progressive communities in the country (Takoma Park/Silver Spring). Jesse Jr. was pretty sharp, and our guy Jaime is great. Here in Montgomery County, Maryland, we are trying to put more progressives in power to move forward and show the rest of the country how to deal with a lot of the issues that more and more of you will be dealing with over the next 20 years, similarly to the Massachussetts Health Insurance initiative. It is quite exciting, and the State Party has been extremely supportive of the new faces. Quite a nice contrast from Joe’s whining.
For those of you in the DC area, June 3 Peace action at Lafayette Park. Should be lovely. DC-Anti-War Network

if Lieberman gets nominated, I will certainly vote for him if I can! (notice the zipcode in my moniker)
itwasntme #50: well, yes, that will make the CT senatorial race like swallowing Castor Oil, but it’s the price of having some principles.
I kind of believe the story the Lieberman went completely haywire because his bid for 2004 Dem presidential nominiation was not automatically approved. He was “rejected” his “rightful place” -I guess he assumed he deserved automatic deference because of his mediocre preformance as VP candidate. Since when does being a mediocre unsuccessful VP candidate give some pol the right place to anything in the next election?
In any case, it is sade, but Lieberman had gone from being a halfway acceptable but overly conservative Democrat to being a tool. He has joined the principle-less crowd, along with GW.
Having principles and following through on pledges means sometimes you have to hard things, or cannot do things the easy way.
But then we have seen, thanks to BushCo, what doing everything without principles, the cheap and easy way, where that gets you.

Hi Howie– thanks for being here and for your earlier post today– good stuff, sorry I was not around to participate!
House Speaker Dennis Hastert (R-IL) “engaged in a high-decibel rant last week when he met with Vice President Dick Cheney,” Robert Novak reports. “The speaker was enraged by the sacking of his friend and former colleague, Porter Goss.”
“Hastert was so vituperative that a private session with President Bush in the living quarters of the White House was scheduled immediately.”
“That wrath reflects the feeling in the House Republican cloakroom that Goss, who gave up a safe congressional seat from Florida for a thankless cleanup mission at the CIA, is being made a scapegoat for the government’s intelligence mess. But Hastert’s discontent goes beyond the CIA. The GOP mood on Capitol Hill, particularly the House, is poisonous

The nonpartisan Cook Political Report, which tracks Congressional races, increased the number of Republican seats viewed as competitive on Friday to 36 from 24, said Amy Walter, an analyst there. Democrats seem to be in increasingly good shape to pick up seats in bands of districts across Pennsylvania, Connecticut and New York, as well as districts throughout Ohio, North Carolina, Arizona, New Mexico, California and Florida. Democrats need to pick up 15 Republican seats to take control.
“The playing field is certainly expanding,” Ms. Walter said. “Clearly what we are seeing is that the political environment is taking a toll and dragging down Republican incumbents; it’s dragging down their polling numbers. The question is, What will the environment be in November?”
Andrew Kohut, a pollster who is the director of the Pew Research Center, said the public was as unhappy with Congress as at any time in the history of the Pew Poll, and that a third of those polled in his most recent survey said they would use their Congressional vote as an opportunity to vote against Mr. Bush, which is precisely the way Democrats have been trying to frame this election.

Hey, Sam, glad you are speaking up, don’t stop, OK? Nice to meet you.
Thanks Barbara, I appreciate the info and hope the other convention will join us, that would be great! I thought I’d heard that about Russ, he’s someone I would love to thank personally, too.
wes, some of that info I didn’t know, just because I couldn’t handle the sound of his name back then. There are so many instances of this it is amazing that anyone with half a brain would believe a word he says.
It’s late and I need to sleep, up at 5 for another day of zennursing.
Thanks for being here, everybody.
Sweet Dreams.
SP CPA — you there? See rwcole (66). Think my theory has something to do with that vituperative exchange?
Was there something else about Goss — like something Goss knew or found out — that put him in a bad, BAD spot?
It certainly appears that Goss fucked up- but that’s no grounds for dismissal in the Clusterfuck administration. He must have done something disloyal.
cbl 72 — no the rumor mill is insane, Christy and Pach can back me up on this, our email boxes are full with the stuff. If Lieberman wants to go indy the petitions have to be filed by June 5 according to DavidNYC. He is in a very, very very bad spot right now.
BTW Connecticut Bob called this morning to say much the same thing. He’s at the convention and the rumors of Holy Joe’s defection from the race in one form or another are flying.
Don’t think Joe will go indie- or gooper- would be a sign of weakness- and wouldn’t play well at all. He’s got an above average approval rating- and should figure to win the primary fairly easily. He threatened the indie thing hoping to avoid a primary battle-something every incumbent hates.
Jane #69: I can’t be at part 2 of the Goldwater Book tomorrow. Some ex-students will be in town running as some congregate critter in the Bay to Breakers and am supposd to meet up with them. If you still think my question about how mun money grass roots reactionaris ever deliverd on their own is good, please ask it for me.
I think the issue of to what extent and when the reactionary wing of the GOP started getting backed up by sugar daddies and media corps is important. I ran across a quote the other day from a Dem Congressional staffer who said that Dems can’t press on anything, certainly not investigations, since the *media* will be one with power to decisively determine the credibility. (Ugh!) Seems like the corporate company man Dems feel that they are outgunned by corporate money running media so they are helpless to do anything. A sad sad display of spineless lack of self respect. I would rather lose than simply give up and not only do nothing, but proceed to enabling.
But… aside from that… there is the interesting practical question of money, how Dems get enough to counter the corporate media machine, etc. If Dems do get one chamber, what is best way to finance themselves without getting totally in hock to big money corporate sector again? Big corporations have no principles at all, and will give to anyone worth bribing. If Dems have one Chamber they will be officially worth bribing again. So that is the disadvantage of dealing with them. The advantage is that there is nothing like having a sugar daddy with very deep pockets who understands the importance of leverage and can focus lots of money very quickly to change elections and influence Congress.
I hate to sound cynical, but financing of effetive public information campaigns and GOTV is an important issue. So I still think whether grass roots reactionaries could ever deliver the $$ is an important question. My assumption is, of course that grass roots reactionaries do not deliver the $$ now. Rather they are dupes in a very weill financed and cynical astroturf operation run by religious right in devils pact with big business. They are cogs in a very large corporate macine. Milk cows.
Anyhoo, here is question:
Still curious when the reactionary right started getting financed by big business. Did “creative destruction” caused by reactionary grass roots create an opening for reactionary big money to replace establishment Republican organization? Or was reactionary grassroots product of a constant, continuing effort by reactionary big business. Wasn’t Reagan a General Electric spokesman, going all over country giving The Speech at this very same time?
While looking for this book in bookstore couple of days ago, I came across another that gave history of corporate/government cold war propaganda machine, which Eisenhower funded to the max. I wonder how the big bucks backing for Goldwater/Reagan style conservatives is related to that?
Or does the Goldwater book make a good case that grassroots money funded movement conservatism from the beginning?
What’s HR 4437 please?
So if Lieberschmuck wants to abort his party membership, how far will he have to drive?
Whoaa! Defection.
Jane, I hope that’s good news? Kinda inclined to think so, meaning he is scared sh*tless, and has gotten the message. But, I am only looking at this from one view.
TeddySF 67 — Actually, I’m her namesake. At least, I’m pretty sure I’m older than she is. But you are right, you are fortunate in your Senator. I’ll even brave the wrath of my fellow FDLers and say you are fortunate in both of them. At least you have two Democrats! I’ve got Bill Nelson, who’s a fairly conservative Democrat, albeit better than Katherine Harris any day, and Mel Martinez, who is a disgrace on every dimension but immigration, and even there he’s probably more worried that someone might close the Cuban “dry foot” loophole than he is about other immigrant groups. At least, I don’t see him making any speeches about the plight of the hard-working Haitian community. Truly one of nature’s walking posterior orifices.
The thought of Joementum* abandoning the Democratic Party because he only got two thirds of the convention votes, and launching a quixotic campaign as an independent, is actually pretty funny. Can you imagine Lyndon Johnson doing that in the 1968 presidential race because Gene McCarthy got 40 percent of the vote in the New Hampshire primary? No, he did the only honorable thing he could do: he withdrew from the race. Maybe that is what Lieberman should be thinking about right now, if he can’t bear the pain of losing the primary to Lamont. Running as an independent–and losing to Lamont anyway–would just make him even more of a political joke.
*Joseph Lieberman (DINO-WH) who, after coming in fifth place in a presidential primary, proudly proclaimed, “We tied for third!)

ROTFLMAO. That deserves some kind of an award.
Rayne #93: thanks. I will definitely read it later, so some one please ask my question about the $$. I guess I am one of the seemingly cynical practical ones. But there is no question in my mind that Dems got seduced by easy corporate money in the late 80s through 90s. Big corporate money, which of course left them as soon as Dems were no longer politcally useful. ems have to find a way to reliably finance the politics without falling into that trap again.
BarbaraB @ 89
there’s all kinds of anecdotal evidence that the once Repub. led pipe cinch of the Cuban bloc is ’softening’ - a lot of it attributed to generational shifts, but I’ve noticed Senator Martinez isn’t in any big hurry for those WH Photo Ops these days
rwcole - muchas gracias for the Cook info !
cbl 94 — oh no I didn’t take it that way. It’s all pretty crazy right now. We’ll see how it settles out.
I know it sounds insane that Joe would bolt the party, but the fact that Ned is a virtual unknown and got that large a percentage of the vote is a horrible harbinger for Joe. His chances are much better as an independent, at least that’s what the polls say. But I can’t even begin to imagine what consequences such a desperate move would bring.
BTW — it looks like signatures for an independent run in the general election are due August 9 (day after Democratic primary); signatures for the primary would have been due in June.
Trying to get more info.
Let’s put all the DINO’s on Skull Island!
Joe can always argue that he didn’t leave the democratic party but the democratic party left him. Hell it worked for the sainted Ronnie.
Of course that would also leave him in the position that he might also have to argue that where he went better represents his position. If that is the party of Frist, Abramoff, Norquist, and Dobson well that’s just the way it is.
Go ahead Joe let’s hear that argument.
whoa, posts are disappearing now!
ermm, I mean comments are disappearing.

YES!!!
I haven’t seen the polls for the CT-general, but I’m not sure I follow the logic that says an independent Lieberman run would turn his seat over to the GOP.
If most of Joe’s support comes from Republicans, wouldn’t his running as an Independent split the GOP vote, leaving Ned to win the Dems? Or are folks predicting that Joe would split the Dem vote with Ned, ensuring a GOP win? Presumably, there would still be Dems loyal to Joe who’d vote for him, but isn’t Bush polling at about 12% JAR in Connecticut? If Ned runs in the general against Bush, it seems to me he wins in November regardless of his opponent(s).
LBJ was a lotta bad things, but in March of 1968 he put country above party, taking himself out of the Presidential race in hopes of brokering a Vietnam peace agreement in Paris. Maybe the DLCers need to start calling Joe on the phone and urging him to be a “statesman” and withdraw completely! As if.
Of course, Rummy could still retire, leaving SecDef open and a graceful exit for Joe from Connecticut electoral politics….
Great balls of Fire Dog Lake! What a joy to be part of this community - a link to sanity in an otherwise dispirited era. Thank you everyone and most especially our fearless & tireless founders who give new meaning to my dear late Girl Scout Leader mother’s favorite three words: lead by doing.
Off topic, but this headline struck me.. so of all those corrupt rethug congressmen, the first sitting legislator to get his home raided by the Unitary Executive is a Democrat? A Black Democrat? Boy.. each day I get prouder and prouder of our fair and impartial system of governmentjustice
FBI Searches Congressman’s Home
WASHINGTON (CNN) — FBI agents were on Capitol Hill on Saturday searching the office of Rep. William Jefferson as part of a bribery investigation into the Louisiana Democrat, government officials said.
Agents searched Jefferson’s New Orleans, Louisiana, home in August, but Saturday marked the first time the FBI has ever searched a congressman’s Capitol Hill office, one official said.
Perhaps a clue as to Holy Joe’s level of commitment was his decision to run as a Senator AT THE SAME TIME as he was running for Vice-President. Yes, it’s all about him…
Valley Girl (#42), thanks for the warm welcome. I think the best thing out-of-staters can do is to volunteer for phone banking, call friends and family who live in Connecticut and engage them in discussion about why Ned would make a truly great U.S. Senator and, if possible, donate, here at FDL’s Act Blue page. And watch this site. If I know Jane, Christy and Pach, there will be some take-action alerts before the August primary.
Maybe we need to start a petition for Senator Schumer. We should ask him to commit to support the winner of the CT Democratic primary, whomever that is.
The mere fact that we need to ask that in a petition would a strong statement of our distrust of Schumer’s misplaced loyalties and agenda.
Howie- my pleasure! Alas, you have been EPU’d- which means that comments have moved on (short version) to the next thread. It is: http://www.firedoglake.com/200.....be-heroes/
If don’t mind (well, I’m gonna do it anyway), I am going to repost this to the next/ current thread.
Might Lieberman really run as an Independent? Surely he will rule that out on Monday… or will he?
That’s the big question.
Tell me again why it’s bad that Lieberman should quit the Democratic party. At least if he does it sooner, he won’t waste tons of Dem party cash on his own race. Right? Am I missing something? And Lamont is going to have to face him in August or November. Sure he won’t have Republicans voting for him in the primary, but if he bolts, that can’t be a good thing for him in the eyes of Democrat voters.
Rat fink that he is, I’m sure he’ll bleed the party dry in the primaries before bolting. If he wants to run as an independent, what does he have to do, and when does he have to have it done?
It would be sad if Hilary and Schumer still endorse him as an independent. But they can’t be happy about that prospect. I don’t know about Schumer, but I think Hilary is at least smart enough that what’s happening to Lieberman could happen to her too. So she’ll either fight for him like it’s her own fight, or she’ll run from him as fast as she can.
Lamont’s huge personal wealth must be worrying the Lieberman people a great deal.
Lieberman will bolt and go independent. He will succomb to Rove’s blandishments to do so and become the next secretary of defense. It will enrapture AIPAC and Israel, and rid this bankrupt administration of the architect of the gross mismanagement of the invasion of a soverign sountry. This clears the way for the Iranian fiasco.!!!
