Chris Matthews just said on Hardball that the "CIA leak grand jury meets tomorrow, Friday." According to Christy, grand jury members are given a phone number to call in that will let them know if they're going to be meeting the next day, so it's entirely possible that someone would know.
Matthews says that they'll be covering it tomorrow at 5 and 7 pm. We will, of course, be all ears first thing in the morning.
Could it be Fitzo-de-Mayo?

Fitzo de Mayo, claro !
FITZ EM TIL THEY CRY!!
1). is it fitzmas eve?
2). after the usa today article, chimpy’s next poll number will be 28.
Mr. Fitzgerald to the white courtesy indict-o-phone, please.
Do we know if Fitz will be there? Or is this just another case of a regular GJ meeting?
*ilson I like yours better. I’m changing it.
I was checking here all day for a “media advisory.” Guess I’ll be checking tomorrow all day too!
I guessed tomorrow, and my knuckles are white waiting for some good news. Fingers and legs crossed. Oh, please let it be!
the “Fitzo-de-Mayo” nomenclature promotes diversity and internationalism, a truly progressive goal. Gracias!
angie 9 — I think Fitz would give the media at least a business day’s worth of notice as he did for the Libby indcictment (see 8).
Oh please oh please oh please . . .
Yeah who had tomorrow in the pool?
punaise- has to be one of your absolute bests!
Mr. Fitzgerald to the white courtesy indict-o-phone, please.
I did
Joe Scarborough is ripping into the telephone tapping program. He used to be on the House Intelligence Committee. He abominates the program and the Telcos that facilitated it.
Usually I switch away from that asshat but tonight I may watch…
I’ve sent out the alert for a Fitzo de Mayo party. If the indictment(s) come down tomorrow, party time tomorrow night. If not, what ever Friday night follows it will be party time . . . don’t want to tempt fate, but it is awfully tempting!
Go Fitz!!!!
I awoke this morning fantasizing about Fitz being named Atty Gen. in the next Dem administration. A girl can dream.

Jane, Thank you so much for this update (giggles with barely controlled glee while singing “it’s begining to look a lot like Fitzmas, everywhere we go…In the look on the lawyer’s face, he knows Rove’s a big disgrace, with perjury indictments in a rowwwwww…..”)
Do we know what channel will be most likely to broadcast this live? I’m assuming one of the C-Spans.
Christy or Other Legal Minds-
Can you tell us about the feasibility of class-action lawsuits against the people who have sold our phone records to the gov’t? What would be the necessary criteria to discover if a suit is applicable? How would we get that information? Is there any way we can make them stop?
Thankee kindly,

sorry I never got back to you on the French discussion, but I figured it out later via your response to Hugh. I wouldn’t want to clutter up a current thread a discuter en francais, but we can politely squat an old thread for same, n’est-ce pas?
Interesting…..this really relates to the previous article, but….Joe Scarborough just came out and soundly CONDEMNED the latest NSA activity revealed today. He was very strident in his crtique, ending with a message to gov’t: “get a damn warrant!” Wow…that’s Scarborough saying that! Interesting.
Ghostman
Don’t wish for an indictment tomorrow. Let Bush stew in his own NSA travesty for a week or two. Then, when he thinks the worst is over, that’s the time for an indictment.
matty fred 11– I’m thinking Fitz is not only predictably brilliant, but also unpredictably savvy and just plain true…
I don’t think he plays by any rules, if it’s ready tomorrow, tomorrow it’ll be.
I hope.

Yeah who had tomorrow in the pool?
Ooh! Ooh! ME!!
I think RH reviewed the archives and concluded that Fitz didn’t announce the press conference until Friday early a.m. last time.
Of course, that was a different situation in that the GJ’s term was expiring on Oct. 28th - I’m not sure when this one expires but it’s not soon.
Also, I suppose there’s some doubt as to how the GJ will vote. In the case of the Libby indictment, he may decided to hold a press conference one way or the other.

Think about it: how long has it been since punaise has summoned Thesaurus Rex to pick up on the white trexaphone (or whatever it is you call it - would the NSA know?)
everybody in the pool!
The GJ will meet tomorrow. IF they return indictments, Fitz will announce a press conference to be held - he will give a 24 hour “heads up” on that conference.
Speculation is that the announcement will be made on Tuesday as to what indictments the GJ approved.
The GJ only needs 13 votes to indict, out of 24.
Fingers crossed.
matty fred,
Fitz did NOT give the media a day of notice last time. He issued a press release announcing a press conference later that same day.
That was a little different since that was the very last day that GJ met, so we all new something was going to happen one way or another that day.
But there’s no reason to think (Jason Leopold’s flawed reporting, notwithstanding) he wouldn’t proceed the same way this time: GJ meets, press release given, press conference a few hours later.

Matty Fred 11 — I think the situation is a bit different. Fitz owed the public something that day, it was the day the grand jury expired and one way or another with that much anticipation built up he had to say something. Can he know for a fact that the grand jury will hand down indictments if in fact he requests them tomorrow? If he calls a press conference the day before and nobody winds up being indicted, what’s he supposed to say? “Nice try?”

I’m exhausted. Please wake me when the Republic is saved.
Question though about GJ workings. If, and obviously it’s a big if, GJ indicts tomorrow, what’s been going on in the meantime, since the last meeting that we know about, the one with Rove? Time been spent for Team Fitz to hammer out the wording of a document to present to the GJ for them to consider and return (go true bill) or time for the GJ to absorb the testimony, or?

Off Topic - Joe Scarborough ripped the administration a new one on the Spy program in the opening segment of his program.
Republicans are becoming disillusioned.
I say wish for an indictment ASAP to give Rove less time to cause more trouble.
As for Bush stewing in his NSA juices, I’d like to be convinced otherwise, but why should this USA Today story be any different from the original NYT one? The Republican masses don’t seem to care about wiretapping. Why would this story cause a major drop in the polls when the original one actually seemed to help him?
Ay, dios mios - Fitz! Querida! AHORA! PRONTO! ANDALE!
What does “Your comment is awaiting moderation” mean?
the last Grand Jury was predominantly African-American females. Not exactly the demographics Karl Rove is skillful dealing with, eh?

If we know Fitz plays by the book, no leaks, advance notice PDF at his site…and no notice at site. Makes me think this is at best cable herd mentality, and possibly Rove/Luskin disinfo to undercut PJF credibility. Nets and viewers “WHat!? No indictments! What a lot of BS”
But anything is possible, and hope springs eternal.
It would be sweet one-two punch on WH polling. Massive UnConstitutional illegal domestic spying and treasonous betrayal of a spy
Raw Story has been saying for a few hours that Fitz will be there tomorrow. If Fitz had already decided to not indict, he’d have no reason to meet with the GJ, correct?

well, hi there matty fred; great time to delurk and try to relax among friends. what a crazy 24 hrs.
welcome, matty fred
how’s the water?
What does “Your comment is awaiting moderation†mean?
AT&T is checking with the NSA to see if it’s okay to let it through.
punaise- re: the French discussion- no need to continue, since you got the gist from my comment to Hugh. How do you say “don’t feed the trolls” en Francais?
Scarborough is practically screaming at some assistant to the pResident about the legality of the datamining of phone records. He is asking whether next the gov’t can get our banking records, etc.
Now he has called the Bush presidency is “the Imperial Presidency”!
I normally work at home on Fridays - and wouldn’t you know, tomorrow I have meetings and have to go into the office - just when it may be THE DAY!
Will set the VCR, but it’s not the same as being glued to the TV and the blogs all day!
Actually, though, I hope it happens early next week instead. It would be such a travesty for this indictment to fall into the Friday black hole.
Looks like DiFi purchased a clue today. She thinks she may now not confirm Hayden. Really? What piece of the puzzle was she missing?
If Fitz had already decided to not indict, he’d have no reason to meet with the GJ, correct?
It might be one in a series of meetings leading up to an indictment decision.
I bet 5/19 but to be honest I’d rather see it on 5/26… The NSA issue should remain on the front burner of the news cycles for as long as possible, in my opinion.
But don’t let me spoil any one’s Fitzmas party preparation!
he will give a 24 hour “heads up†on that conference.
I don’t think that’s necessary. The networks are going to be there tomorrow morning.
not fitzo de mayo, but mother’s day!
come to mama, patty m’ boy…
Well, good for you, matty! You are very welcome here, don’t slink back to the shadows.
I’d sure like to know what Christy thinks about this. Have you talked to her, Jane? I think it’s possible, but somehow I’m doubtful that tomorrow will be the day. Probably just the NSA thing talking.
Wouldn’t it be fun if Rove had to give up the security clearance and resign tomorrow??? That’s basically what Libby did. Rove won’t want to, Bush won’t want him to, but he has to, doesn’t he??
Did I mention that Fitz is looking fetching?
Scarborough’s attack on the government telephone call collecting program was really amazing. Are there more conservatives like him out there that feel that way?

Bush energy plan update. His vision for 2007:
http://www.bgladd.com/Bush_Mal.....y_plan.jpg
VG- from my experience as a GJ, I think time to hammer out the wording; jurors don’t absorb so much as forget during the lapses between meetings. When I served, the USAs kind of made it clear that their expectation was when in doubt, we were to request more information rather than vote no true bill…When we started asking too many questions, they would go back to their investigation. When and if the GJ does vote a true bill, the indictment can be sealed until the prosecutor decides to serve it up.
Tony Snow better work on his “I refuse to comment on an ongoing investigation” delivery tonight….
obsessed at 28 — that’s correct — there was media buzz and rumors, but the announcement from Fitz’s office did not come until the jury had officially voted, the morning that Libby was indicted. Anything earlier that was official would have been improper. And there was a recent report that Libby’s attorney’s weren’t notified until the morning of the indictment either (a target letter or any other notification is NOT a requirement, FYI, it’s a courtesy). (I think Schuster reported the morning Libby notification earlier in the week, if I remember correctly.)
Just a word of caution for everyone — if the grand jury is meeting tomorrow, and really what we have is Matthews public statement on this on MSNBC on Hardball, not an official court announcement, but still…just because the jury is meeting does not mean that there will be an indictment. (Although, damn, it sure would be sweet, wouldn’t it? I’m gonna be up at the crack of dawn in anticipation.) All I’m saying is, there is a lot of information that the jurors have to absorb and consider in this case — built up from months and months of investigation. Just don’t go all celebratory until we know for sure that there is an indictment — we’ll see that when Fitz takes things to the presiding judge along with the foreperson of the jury, just like last time. Justice takes time, and I don’t want everyone to be hugely disappointed if it doesn’t happen tomorrow, that’s all I’m saying.
The GJ was given a Request for Indictment to review. They have been reviewing the documents and we will find out if they “return” the Indictment (which means the Prosecutor has proven there is enough evidence to take the case forward).
Also, at this point, we don’t know exactly “who” the indictment has been requested for - how many (Rove/Cheney/Hadley???) or how many charges are requested against each.
The frequent comment referring to Grand Juries is that - if a Prosecutor requests, they will indict a ham sandwich.
Fingers crossed!

I am hoping it will be Monday as well. The public needs the weekend to digest this NSA telephone business and really get angry, then on Monday another shoe will drop. If Rove gets indicted tomorrow it might not get the attention it deserves - or will curtail the MSM coverage of the illegal datamining scandal. Better to space these things out justa little… Never let them catch their breath.
Looks like DiFi purchased a clue today.
Where’d you see that? DiFi’s mindset is to cover her ass in relation to where she thinks things will be way down the road. Hence, she voted for the war, failed to opposed Alito, opposed censure, etc.
So if she’s against Hayden now, it means she thinks he’s seeing some change in the wind as a result of today’s revelation.
Trouble is, DiFi is not only a cowardly, self-serving follower of trends, she’s also usually wrong about those trends.
If anyone else is a CA democrat, I suggest we vote for one of her two primary opponents to send her a message — but which one?
The Grand Jury meets every Wed and Friday. Fitz was not there (I don’t believe) on Wednesday but reason to believe he will be there tomorrow.

I don’t think Chris Matthews knows that the Fitzgerald or any of his assistants will be meeting with the greand jury.
I hope he has guessed right.
Well, I’ve been wrong before - but I would give good odds that nothing is coming for a while. The big push to get this wrapped up soon is coming from Gold Bars Luskin and Rove -not the leak-proof Fitz team. Rove just testified, so you would think the GJ would need a couple of weeks to chew over that, at least.
Is there any indication that we’re close to a decision, besides the press leaks from Rove’s team? The GJ term doesn’t end for months, FItz has no deadline imposed on him, and last time he announced Libby’s indictements at the last possible minute, on the very last day for the GJ. Something doesn’t scan to me.
JH 45 — Tru ’nuff. Fitz scheduling a press conference before an official indictment truly would be counting chickens before they hatch!

I was away from all news outlets all day, just found out about the latest Bush administration illegal spying on millions of people without a warrant scandal. Has Bush commented on it today?
Part of it is that even if Fitz asks for an indictment, he doesn’t know that the GJ will vote for it.
RH - if you’re the prosecutor dealing with a GJ, how informal is it? Can he poll the jury and can they talk strategy? In other words, is he like the foreman of the jury and they’re all coming to a decision, or is he strictly behaving like a prosecutor, presenting his case to them and then they deliberate without him?
*ilson 93 - mais bien sur. (actually spelled emmerdeur).
Wir sind Fitz!
(that’s a play on the best Bild headline ever - WIR SIND PAPST! - WE ARE POPE!)
I think we don’t really know how much notice Fitz will give because the last time, for Libby’s indictment (God, that’s a beautiful word - indictment!) we were already pretty much “on call” due to the GJ term expiring.
Maybe he’ll give us more notice this time…
92 — With Libby, the media knew the night before there would be a press conf. the next day, even though the written media advisory is dated Oct. 28. Mr. Silence (Fitz’ PIO) probably answered “yes” to the question on the phone the day before, so that’s how the word got out (prior to to putting the media advisory on the web site and on the wires).
Basheert The GJ was given a Request for Indictment to review.
So, if that is one of the steps in the indictment dance, is this Request given to a GJ during a meeting, or can it be distributed to jurors w/o a meeting? If it has to be distributed at a regular meeting, then I can’t see that it would have been given at the last known meeting, the latest Rove visit. Also, I would guess that a review wouldn’t be done “on the day”, but then IANAL. Maybe this is what goes on on the day- GJ gets document to review, meets and discusses, and then returns “true bill” or req. for more info?
Curiouser and curiouser. My suspicion is that something else may be happening. There was a media frenzy the last time because the Grand Jury was expiring. This time, it sounds like the press has been tipped off. I see two big possibilities: (a) Someone’s been called to testify, and that lead to the word getting out. (Would LOVE it if Libby has flipped, by the way. It’s also possible that JudyJudyJudy had her memory jogged by one of Libby’s filings.) Or (b) Fitz made a courtesy call to someone’s lawyer(s) to let them know that he’d be asking the GJ to indict their client tomorrow, and the lawyer(s) tipped off the press. That’s the kind of thing a media-whore like Luskin would do in a heartbeat.
Wish I could take the day off tomorrow to catch any breaking news on the tube. I will check FDL every chance I get.
Since I gotta go to work - I gotta go to bed.

punaise: recall Indiana was a part of Quebec until 1763 ! If it hadn’t been for that silly 7-Year War …
You know, it also occurs to me that should Rove be testifying again, Luskin would be aware of the schedule on that and would be a possibility for media notification as well. That would be equally true for any other potential witness and their legal representatives. (e.g. Cathie Martin, Susan Ralston, Stephen Hadley, someone like that…) So media notification could have happened for a number of reasons. But I am POSITIVE that there was no official announcement until the morning of the indictment being handed down by the jury.

There is definitely a possibility that someone has flipped. This would be the natural time to do it so as to beat the clock before an indictment comes down, which would change the playing field significantly for all involved.
I missed the last thread, but since Sprint was listed as a non-NSA alternative, I’ve been wondering if anyone knows anything solid about their position. (I have Sprint for long distance and cell service.) They weren’t one of the “big three” listed in the USA Today article, but it says that Qwest is “the only one of the largest telecoms” to refuse.
I don’t know is whether Sprint is smaller than Qwest, but I haven’t found anything definitive that says they’re not involved. Has anyone else?
Also, they were mentioned as cooperating in the earlier “only international calls” version of the program, so without solid evidence, I’m not inclined to let them off the hook.
Also, in my search, I came across this interesting comment on democrats.com:

Across the United States, religious activists are organizing to establish an American theocracy. A frightening look inside the growing right-wing movement.
http://www.salon.com/books/fea...../goldberg/
…Tim LaHaye, who is most famous for putting a Tom Clancy gloss on premillennialist theology in the Left Behind thrillers that he co-writes with Jerry Jenkins, was heavily influenced by Schaeffer, to whom he dedicated his book “The Battle for the Mind.” That book married Schaeffer’s theories to a conspiratorial view of history and politics, arguing, “Most people today do not realize what humanism really is and how it is destroying our culture, families, country — and, one day, the entire world. Most of the evils in the world today can be traced to humanism, which has taken over our government, the UN, education, TV, and most of the other influential things of life.
“We must remove all humanists from public office and replace them with pro-moral political leaders,” LaHaye wrote.
As premillennialists grew to embrace the goal of dominion, they made alliances with Reconstructionists. In 1984, Jay Grimstead, a disciple of Francis Schaeffer, brought important pre- and post-millennialists together to form the Coalition on Revival (COR) in order to lay a blueprint for taking over American life. Tim LaHaye was an original member of COR’s steering committee, along with Rushdoony, North, creationist Duane Gish, D. James Kennedy, and the Reverend Donald Wildmon of the influential American Family Association.
Between 1984 and 1986, COR developed seventeen “worldview” documents, which elucidate the “Christian” position on most aspects of life. Just as political Islam is often called Islamism to differentiate the fascist political doctrine from the faith, the ideology laid out in these papers could be called Christianism. The documents outline a complete political program, with a “biblically correct” position on issues like taxes (God favors a flat rate), public schools (generally frowned upon), and the media and the arts (”We deny that any pornography and other blasphemy are permissible as art or ‘free speech’”)…
…Speaking to outsiders, most Christian nationalists say they’re simply responding to anti-Christian persecution. They say that secularism is itself a religion, one unfairly imposed on them. They say they’re the victims in the culture wars. But Christian nationalist ideologues don’t want equality, they want dominance. In his book “The Changing of the Guard: Biblical Principles for Political Action,” George Grant, former executive director of D. James Kennedy’s Coral Ridge Ministries, wrote:
“Christians have an obligation, a mandate, a commission, a holy responsibility to reclaim the land for Jesus Christ — to have dominion in civil structures, just as in every other aspect of life and godliness.
But it is dominion we are after. Not just a voice.
It is dominion we are after. Not just influence.
It is dominion we are after. Not just equal time.
It is dominion we are after.
World conquest. That’s what Christ has commissioned us to accomplish. We must win the world with the power of the Gospel. And we must never settle for anything less…
Thus, Christian politics has as its primary intent the conquest of the land — of men, families, institutions, bureaucracies, courts, and governments for the Kingdom of Christ.
